Postdoctoral position available at the Institute for Biochemistry I, Medical Faculty, University of Cologne (Köln):We are analysing the functions of Nesprins (NUANCE, Enaptin; SYNE), which are proteins of the nuclear envelope. Complexes of Nesprin with the inner nuclear membrane protein Sun/UNC84 bridge the nuclear envelope and link the nuclear lamina to the cytoskeleton. The goal of the studies is to functionally characterize Nesprins and reveal their contribution to the correct function of the nucleus. Mouse models are available.
The laboratory is part of the Center for Molecular Medicine University of Cologne (CMMC) and of the Cluster of Excellence: Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases (CECAD).
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in molecular biology or biochemistry with experience in cell culture and imaging. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and in a team. Applicants should send a letter of motivation, full CV with publication list and names of two referees to Noegel@uni-koeln.de.
The salary is equivalent to TV-L 13. Applications from qualified female candidates is encouraged. Handicapped applicants will be given preference in the case of equal qualifications.
The position is initially available for a period of two years.
Starting date: October 2008

Presently i am pursuing research work on Ecology of Himalayan Oak (Quercus sp) forests in the Western Himalaya. And these oak forests are dwindling day by day , having high anthropogenic pressure.
