Job Description: These positions are open in the groups of Computational Drug Discovery and Bio activity Screening and they are partly funded by the Bio center Finland (BF) network “Drug Discovery and Chemical Biology”.

The work contracts will be until 31.12.2011. The postdoctoral researchers are expected to carry out both basic research and service work of BF.Postdoctoral researcher in the specialty of Chemo informatics.

The tasks related to the position include conducting academic and BF service research in the field of chemo informatics. The tasks include in particular QUASAR/OSPREY predictions of biological properties of compounds (especially ADMEN features) and maintaining the Finnish database of academic small synthetic molecules.

We are looking for an applicant with a PhD.D. in a scientific discipline relevant to the tasks (mathematics, computer science, chemistry, computational biochemistry/pharmacy), a good command of mathematics (especially statistics), experience on working in a computer-based environment, knowledge in at least one programming language (python, C++) and ability to integrate selected tools via scripting. The applicant must be fluent in English and possess excellent team, oral, and written communication skills. The following will be considered highly desirable but not as prerequisites: track record in the field of chemo informatics and computational drug discovery, experience working with small molecules or with macromolecules (protein modeling, ligand docking, etc), the ability to develop software, data mining and QUASAR modeling, relational databases and operational systems.

Postdoctoral researcher in the specialty of Bio activity Screening.

The tasks related to the position include conducting academic and BF service research in the fields of in vitro screening, in particular on cell-based models and high-content screening.

We are looking for an applicant with a Ph.D. in a scientific discipline relevant to the tasks (cell biology, pharmacy, biotechnology, biochemistry). Preferably the applicant should have experience on the cell-based screening assays (in particular, based on high-content analysis), on designing and carrying out screening projects, on analysis of screening data, and on the use of screening instruments. The applicant must be fluent in English and possess excellent team and communication skills. The following will be considered highly positive: track record in the field of high-throughput and secondary screening, experience on follow-up studies on screening hits, and the ability to develop data analysis tools for high-content screening.

The salary for the present posts will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities, and based on the applicants track record the salary will be 2636–3857 € per month.Both postdoctoral researchers will work at Bio center 2, University of Helsinki, Viikinkaari 5 B, University of Helsinki.
