Postdoctoral Research Associate in Quantum Dot Luminescent Solar Concentrators,Heriot Watt university,UK
One of the main research strengths of the Heriot-Watt University (HWU) photovoltaics (PV) group is in the application of luminescent materials to enhance the performance of PV devices and modules.
The advertised position is funded by the Carbon Trust project “IR Quantum Dot Solar Concentrators”, lead by a U.K. industry partner.
The project seeks to develop and characterize a range of quantum dot luminescent solar concentrators (QDLSC) that can absorb a maximum amount of radiation across the visible and infrared (IR) spectrum and convert it to a longer IR wavelength matched to the peak spectral efficiency of IR sensitive PV technologies (e.g. Ge,Si, InGaAs). Concentration of diffuse and direct sunlight reduces the number of PV cells needed for a given LSC plate area.
You will have completed a PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry, or engineering (or another appropriate area) and possess relevant research experience. Ideally you will have significant experience in all of the following areas:
Experience with nanomaterials, particularly optical spectroscopy (including quantum yield and lifetime measurement) for the characterisation of semiconducting quantum dots; and Optical modelling techniques, such as ray-tracing; Polymer processing techniques; and Photovoltaic devices.
The post offers the excitement and satisfaction of an industry-driven project,. Ideally, the successful applicant will be able to start in late-June/early-July. The period of employment will be for a fixed period of 24 months full-time.
