Reference No. 132574The University of Sydney’s Northern Clinical School, located within the Royal North Shore Hospital, brings together a large group of expert medical teachers and a range of training facilities to create outstanding opportunities for clinical education. The Pain Management Research Institute (PMRI) is a core part of the School, dedicated to serving the community through research and education programs aimed at improving pain management.

The PMRI is currently seeking to employ a suitably-qualified and highly-motivated Postdoctoral Fellow who wishes to gain specific experience in pain research treatments. The successful applicant will perform animal behavioural and physiological research on novel treatments for chronic pain, as well as perform animal surgery, analyse data and prepare manuscripts and presentations.

This role will initially be based at the PMRI, however it will be relocated to and funded by the University’s prestigious Brain and Mind Research Institute (BMRI) soon after commencement. The BMRI is widely renowned for executing innovative and integrative research strategies to directly benefit people whose lives have been affected by psychiatric and neurological illness. It is also home to world-leading neurological professionals and offers access to cutting edge technology and facilities.

To succeed, applicants must have a recent PhD in a discipline related to pharmacology, as well as a practical background in pain research and pharmacology. Experience in animal behaviour and animal handling techniques will also be required.

The position is full-time fixed term for two years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

Remuneration package: up to $60,712 - $82,389 p.a. (which includes a base salary Research Level A $51,302 - $69,620 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
