Study Subject(s):High Redshift Galaxy Formation
Course Level:Postdoctoral Research
Scholarship Provider: University of Melbourne
Scholarship can be taken at: Australia

A PhD or equivalent in Astrophysics or a related area. Expertise in modern computational cosmology techniques. A demonstrated aptitude for research with a sound record of publication, commensurate with experience and opportunities. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others. Good data analysis and programming skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: The Astrophysics Group in the School of Physics at the University of Melbourne invites applications for up to 3 Postdoctoral Research Positions in Theoretical or Observational Cosmology, funded as part of Professor Stuart Wyithe’s Australian Laureate Fellowship. Applicants with skills in optical/IR photometry, and in any areas of analytic modelling, semi-analytic modelling or numerical simulation of galaxy formation are encouraged to apply. The successful applicants will form a team to work with Professor Wyithe on problems associated with the formation and evolution of high redshift galaxies, and their role in cosmic reionization. The research program will be directed primarily towards interpretation of observations using existing and forthcoming near-IR facilities. The University of Melbourne is a partner in the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-sky Astrophysics (“CAASTRO”), and provides a vibrant collaborative environment. The fellow’s research program will be complementary to the goals of CAASTRO, which, within the field of reionization studies, focus on observations of the redshifted 21cm line.
