Description : The Atherothrombosis Research Group (ARG) consists of six internationally recognized cardiovascular research scientists from McMaster University, namely Drs. Richard Austin, Peter Gross, Suleiman Igdoura, Luke Janssen, Colin Nurse, and Bernardo Trigatti. The group is funded through a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario Program Grant aimed at identifying and characterizing novel targets and therapeutic strategies that decrease atherothrombotic disease. Four postdoctoral positions are available immediately to study the underlying mechanisms responsible for atherothromobotic disease, focusing on the role of cellular stress pathways, hypoxia, and apolipoprotein biosynthesis and metabolism. The overall goal of these research projects is to develop and characterize novel approaches for the prevention and treatment of heart disease and stroke. The research will involve a combination of molecular and cellular work, including the use of viral expression systems and experimental animal models of atherothrombosis. Candidates must have a PhD and/or MD, and a strong record of achievement in vascular biology and/or cardiovascular disease. Experience with transgenic and knock out mice would be a major asset.
