Postdoctoral Scholars in Drug Discovery Melatonin Receptors as Targets for Antidepressant Action
A postdoctoral research position supported by NIH funding is available immediately for a Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. to study the neuropharmacology of MT12 melatonin receptor ligands as potential antidepressants. Projects include the use of mouse models with genetic deletion of the MT1 and/or MT2 and/or MT melatonin receptors and/or clock genes to understand the mechanism(s) of antidepressant actions of melatonin receptor ligands in molecular signaling and neurogenesis, and in their ability to show antidepressant effects in rodent models of depression.
Candidates must have a strong research background and practical experience with mouse behavior models, and the molecular neuropharmacology of G-protein coupled receptors and signaling. Candidates should be willing to use integrated neuropharmacology in vitro and in vivo approaches to assess the antidepressant efficacy of melatonin receptor ligands. Knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of clock gene expression and circadian behaviors is desirable as well. This position represents a unique opportunity for career development, for learning drug discovery approaches, and for having interactions with investigators within the multidisciplinary scientific community at Northwestern University.
