Postgraduate Research Scholarship
The School of Law, University of Reading is seeking to award one scholarship for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake doctoral level research in the School. For this scholarship it will be an advantage to have a research interest in one of the following areas, although those with other areas of interest are welcome to apply:
- family law and at the intersection of family and medical law, dealing particularly with the consequences of assisted conception (projects with a comparative dimension or of a socio-legal nature would be especially welcome);
- employment law, European/international/comparative labour and social law, EC constitutional and administrative law, free movement of persons, services and freedom of establishment;
- discrimination and employment law (especially dispute resolution, work/life issues and EU social policy);
- tort law and environmental law (especially those areas with a substantial domestic and EU element).
The scholarship is likely to be highly competitive and is awarded on the basis of academic excellence. The successful applicant will have his/her fees (at Home/EU level only) paid by the School and will receive a scholarship of £12,940 per annum (with annual increases) for a period of 3 years, subject to a satisfactory annual review of progress. A condition of the scholarship is that the award-holder conducts up to 60 hours per annum of teaching on behalf of the School. For this reason, it will be an advantage if candidates are able and willing to teach one or more core law modules at undergraduate level.
Applicants must have a Law degree at upper second class level or above (or equivalent) and are expected to have (or be undertaking) a Master’s level qualification at merit level (or above).
The successful applicant will have the opportunity of working in a thriving postgraduate community with a group of scholars committed to international quality research, together with the ability to acquire invaluable teaching experience.
