Power Shift 2009 Scholarships
Be part of this unique opportunity to invest in the development of youth leaders on climate change! NWF is inviting affiliates to nominate youth leaders to apply for the NWF Affiliates Scholarship. The scholarship is designed to assist students and young people who would like to attend Power Shift 2009, being held in Washington, D.C., on February 27-March 2.
Power Shift 2009 will bring 10,000 young people to Washington to hold our elected officials accountable for rebuilding our economy and reclaiming our future through bold climate and clean energy policy. National Wildlife Federation would like to help send as many young people to our Nation’s Capitol as possible to participate in this historic event. To that end, NWF is offering scholarships to students and young people who meet the following criteria:
1) Have been recommended to apply for this scholarship by a member of an affiliate organization of NWF;
2) Can demonstrate a strong desire to attend Power Shift 2009;
3) Can demonstrate an interest in climate change and/or energy issues.
Deadline for submission of this application is Monday, February 2, 2009, at 5 P.M. EST. Applicants who are awarded a scholarship will be notified within two weeks of the deadline.
One month after our new President, Vice-President and Congress are sworn into office, thousands of young people from across the country will converge in Washington DC for a youth climate conference called Power Shift 09 to demand our new leaders to implement a powerful, national game plan to stop global warming! On Friday, February 27th – Monday, March 2nd, students and young people will participate in an amazing weekend of inspiration, organizing, advocacy, and action that promises to have them fired up and ready to return to their respective campuses and communities to continue the work. The weekend culminates with a rally and Lobby Days on Capitol Hill where participants will get to meet directly with their representatives in Congress.
As a sponsor and partner of Power Shift 2009, National Wildlife Federation is committed to getting as many students and young people to D.C. as possible for this historic event, and NWF is offering a special opportunity to support young people recommended by our affiliates to attend. We have pooled some of our resources together to offer scholarships to students and young people who would like to attend Power Shift. If you know of any students that would be interested in this opportunity, please send them the following link http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=pNFfjKStxNENKooJYapvfaw to apply for the NWF Affiliates Power Shift 09 Scholarship. Scholarships will cover partial or full travel expenses depending on the need of the applicants. We will work with applicants to raise matching funds where possible.
Deadline for submission is Monday, February 2, 2009 at 5 P.M. EST. Applicants who are awarded a scholarship will be notified within one week of the submission deadline. Applicants should be over 18, able and willing to travel on their own and willing to share accommodations. Please help us spread the word about this history making event and opportunity for young people to take a strong stand for our climate in the first 100 days of the new Congress and Administration.
