Each year, Villanova University offers 28 Presidential Scholarships from which 6 scholarships are reserved for candidates from historically underrepresented groups. The Presidential Scholarship is a renewable, merit-based award covering full tuition, room, board (up to 19 meals-per week plan), general fee, and the cost of textbooks for eight consecutive semesters. The Presidential Scholarship application will be available to the student through the myNOVA Prospective Student Portal once the nomination is received and the student has joined myNOVA. The Presidential Scholarship application will close on January 15, 2014.

Eligibility: Presidential Scholars are transformational leaders both on and off campus who have demonstrated a love of learning and a commitment to enhancing both their local and broader civic communities. The Presidential Scholarship Committee welcomes nominations and applications from all qualified candidates. Each year, of the 28 Presidential Scholarships offered, 6 scholarships are reserved for candidates from historically underrepresented groups, including African American/Black, Latino/Hispanic, American Indian/Native Alaskan, Asian/Pacific Islander, first in their family to pursue a college education, and low income (generally Pell Grant eligible) students. Eligibility for the Presidential Scholarship for historically underrepresented students is limited to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents.

What does it cover? The Presidential Scholarship is a renewable, merit-based award covering full tuition, room, board (up to 19 meals-per week plan), general fee, and the cost of textbooks for eight consecutive semesters.

Selection Criteria: The Presidential Scholarship Committee takes a holistic approach in reviewing applicants and looks at multiple criteria including:
-Academic  Achievement: Academic excellence as evidenced by high school course selection and GPA as well as a high level of achievement on the SAT and/or the ACT.
-Civic Engagement: Demonstrated commitment to service in school and in the civic community
-Expertise in Field/Creativity: Capacity for creative expression and willingness to engage in new ideas
-Leadership: Demonstrated ability to motivate and build consensus to effect change
-Resiliency: Ability to handle systemic challenges and navigate resources to overcome obstacles.

Notification: Awardees will be notified during the week of March 18th. Students can view their status through myNOVA after March 22, 2013.

How to Apply: In order to be considered for a Presidential Scholarship, students must have submitted the Villanova Supplement to the Common Application and must be nominated by one of the following: the chief academic officer of their high school (principal, president, headmaster), guidance counselor or an official school designee, or a representative from a home school entity or non-profit educational organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged high school students with the college search process. The Presidential Scholarship application will be available to the student through the myNOVA Prospective Student Portal once the nomination is received and the student has joined myNOVA.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The Nomination Form must be received by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships by December 1 2013. The Presidential Scholarship Application will close at 11:59 pm PST on January 15, 2014.
