Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme in India, 2015-2016

Applications are invited for prime minister’s scholarship scheme from Indian candidates who have joined the professional courses in the academic year 2015-2016. These scholarships are available for dependent wards/widows of Ex-Servicemen and Ex-Indian coast guard. A total number of 4000 students will be selected. The application deadline is 30 November 2015.

Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded for Medical, Technical, Management or other courses given in the list of eligible courses.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing professional degree courses like BE, B Tech, BDS, MBBS, B Ed, BBA, BCA, B Pharma, etc. duly recognized by the respective Government Regulatory Bodies, such as All India Council for Technical Education, Medical Council of India, UGC (Master Degree Courses are not eligible for PMSS except MBA, MCA).

Eligibility:
-Students who have taken admission in 2015 are only eligible to apply for PMSS 2015-16. Students should have scored 60% and above in Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ) i.e 10+2 / Diploma / Graduation.
-Students who are Dependent Wards / Widows of Ex Servicemen & Ex Coast Guard personnel who died in harness / disabled due to causes attributable to military service / coast guard service, irrespective of the rank.
-Dependent wards of Ex Servicemen / Ex Coast Guard personnel and their widows (below officer rank only).

Scholarship Open for International Students: Indian applicants can apply for these scholarships.

Scholarship Description: Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme was introduced from the Academic year 2006-07. To encourage higher technical and professional education for the dependent wards of Ex Servicemen / Ex Coast Guard personnel and their widows (below officer rank only) and dependent wards / widows of Ex Servicemen / Ex Coast Guard personnel who died / disabled in harness due to causes attributable to Military Service / Coast Guard Service, irrespective of the rank.

Number of award(s): A total number of 4000 students will be selected.

Duration of award(s): Two to five years as duration of the course approved by the concerned Regulatory Body (Except one year for B Ed).

What does it cover? The amount of scholarship would be as follows:
(a) Rs. 2000/- per month for boys
(b) Rs. 2250- per month for girls
These scholarships are paid annually after selection.

Selection Criteria: Applications will be short listed based on Ex Servicemen / Ex Coast Guard category and percentage of marks obtained in MEQ.

Notification: List of selected candidates will be forwarded to RSBs / Coast Guard Headquarter after the merit list is finalized by the BOO at KSB. Students will be informed by RSBs about their selection. The list of selected candidates will also be uploaded on the website.

How to Apply: One candidate to submit only one application form for one course, if any candidate submits two applications for more than one course, both the applications will be rejected. Application forwarded in any other format will not be considered. Application to be forwarded on plain A4 size paper (typed or handwritten) in the prescribed format duly completed in all respects with superscription on the envelope “Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for the Academic Year 2015-16”. Documents to be attached along with PMSS Application Form:-
(a) Self attested copy of PPO to be attached in support of the Category 1 to 5, as mentioned in Para 7 of Information Brochure.
(b) Self attested copy of Matriculation or equivalent examination certificate for verification of date of birth.
(c) Self attested copy of mark sheet of MEQ as applicable (e.g. 10 plus 2, Graduation / Diploma). In case the MEQ is Graduation / Diploma, then mark sheets of all semester are required to be submitted.
(d) Original Bonafide Certificate to be signed by Registrar / Dean / Principal of College/Institution pertaining to the course for which scholarship is applied.
(e) Photocopy of 1st Page of Bank Pass Book (PNB / SBI only) showing the Name & Account Number of the student.
Note: Application form is to be deposited by individual to respective RSB / Directorate General of Coast Guard. Applications duly recommended by RSB’s / Directorate General of Coast Guard will be considered by KSB. Therefore, candidates are advised not to forward applications directly to KSB. Applications received directly at KSB will be returned unactioned to individual.
