Scholarship Description: To commemorate the connection between the renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and Trinity College, the College hopes to award each year a Ramanujan Research Studentship in the broad field of Pure or Applied Mathematics to an applicant from India hoping to do research for the PhD degree in Cambridge.

Duration of award(s): A Ramanujan Student will normally be awarded the Ramanujan Studentship for nine months in the first instance, while he/she takes the course leading to the Master of Advanced Study (MASt) in Mathematics. Subject to completion of the course with a Distinction and registration for the PhD degree, the Studentship will then be renewed from October following the award of the Master for up to three further years, subject to satisfactory progress.
What does it cover? A student who has no support from any other source may expect: to have all approved fees paid on her/his behalf; to receive an adequate maintenance allowance (the rate for students undertaking a MASt in Mathematics course is set at the minimum maintenance rate required by Board of Graduate Studies plus a settling in allowance of £350 (2013/14 rate) for Overseas students, and £13,226 per annum (2013/14 rate) for the PhD); to receive allowances covering the costs of travel from India to the United Kingdom at the commencement of the Studentship, to return to India after the first nine months, if the Studentship is renewed, to travel again to the United Kingdom, and to return to India after completion of the research period; to be considered, if qualified, for a discretionary maintenance allowance for the period between completion of the Master of Advanced Study and commencement of research.
