The Research Associate will be required to assist in the collection, analysis and reporting of quantitative and qualitative research data for a Big Lottery Fund funded project examining the prevalence and impact of Hate Crime across all diversity stands in Wales being undertaken in the Cardiff School of Social Sciences in partnership with Race Equality First and the Cardiff and Vale Equality and Human Rights Network.

The Research Associate will perform a number of key tasks on the qualitative and quantitative phases of this project, including undertaking between sixty and seventy interviews with victims of hate crime. The interviews will focus the nature of victimisation, its impact and experience of the criminal justice system. Some of the interviewees will have recent, personal experience of hate crime victimisation. Skilled and sensitive interviewing will be required to gather high-quality data and manage the feelings that may be elicited amongst respondents with a high regard for their welfare. Interviewees will be selected from several diversity strands including race and ethnicity, sexuality, disability and religion. It is expected that the majority of the interviews will be conducted outside normal working hours in various locations across Wales. The project is funded to provide the Research Associate with accommodation and subsistence for over-night stays away from Cardiff in order to complete the interviews. The person appointed will be expected to demonstrate experience of conducting fieldwork and particularly interviews on difficult and/or sensitive topics. During the quantitative phase the Research Associate will assist in the management of SPSS databases, bi-variate and multi-variate statistical analysis and reporting.

In collaboration with the project PI the Research Associate will be required to co-author the interim and final report as well as high-quality academic publications and conference and steering group presentations.
