Research Associate in MEMS Accelerometers for Harsh Environments, UK
Job Description: The Optical and Semiconductor Devices Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College is seeking a postdoctoral Research Associate to work on an industrially funded project in the area of MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) inertial sensors. The project aims to develop silicon-based MEMS accelerometers with optical readout that can operate in harsh environments where electronics cannot be used. The work will include higher level system design, detailed optical and mechanical design, microfabrication and testing.
The incumbent of this post will work closely with the technical community at AWE under the Corporate Technical Outreach programme. Due to the nature of work associated with this post, it is subject to special nationality rules and open only to British citizens. The selected candidate will be required to undergo security clearance.
Applicants should have a PhD (or be nearing completion of a PhD or equivalent) in Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, and should have experience either in optical design for integrated/fibre optic systems or in MEMS design and fabrication. Applicants with an MSc in optics are also welcome to apply.
