Job Description: A position exists for a Research Associate to work on a project that is funded by Rolls-Royce. The aim of the project is to develop novel, high efficiency geometries for the passages in aero turbines. Turbine blades operate in a regime where complex additional flows are present as well as the main stream flow. Furthermore, the manufactured geometry often has additional features that are not included in the design process. Investigating how to change the turbine passage shape in the presence of all these flows and geometrical deviations represents a significant challenge. This work will consider how best to optimise the design space without unreasonably increasing the design complexity.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field of study, a background in aerodynamics of aero engines and turbomachinery is required, together with experience of optimisation and CFD (either commercial or in-house packages).
