Job Description: A Research Associate position, funded by the EU consortium project ENVIROGENOMARKERS, is available from 1 September 2010. We are seeking to employ a motivated person with experience in LCMS-based biofluid analysis and chemical carcinogenesis research, who can deliver consistent, high-quality metabolic profile data as part of biomarker discovery work. The successful candidate will take up the role as primary metabolic profiling analyst in the ENVIROGENOMARKERS project and be responsible for day-to-day biofluid sample analysis and associated data management.

ENVIROGENOMARKERS is the first large-scale application of the full range of omics technologies in a population study aiming at a) the discovery and validation of novel biomarkers predictive of increased risks of a number of chronic diseases including breast cancer, b) the exploration of the association of such biomarkers with environmental exposures, including high-priority pollutants, and c) the discovery and validation of biomarkers of exposure to the above and other high-priority environmental exposures. The project will involve profiling samples taken from biobank cohorts such as The European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). This is a unique and exciting opportunity and would make an excellent project for a recently qualified postdoctoral scientist.

In addition to excellent analytical skills, experience of statistical analysis methods is highly desirable as these will play a key part of this role to enable integration of metabolic measurements with those made on complementary profiling platforms e.g. transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenetics. This post offers the opportunity to work in Biomolecular Medicine, Imperial College London, one of the leading metabolic profiling laboratories worldwide, and will afford numerous possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration and training.

A PhD in a relevant area of analytical bioscience is essential, as is the ability to work unsupervised in a laboratory environment, carry out accurate and high-quality bioanalytical procedures according to analytical protocols, and keep good laboratory records.

Closing Date: 19 August 2010 (midnight GMT)
