Research Engineer, Live Cell & Cellular Physiology (Dublin, Ireland)
The successful candidate will manage the Cellular and Molecular Imaging Core Facility established within the National Biophotonics Imaging Platform (NBIPI) at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in Dublin (Ireland) as Research Engineer (www.NBIPIreland.ie).
The Research Engineer will be responsible for the operation, management and postgraduate teaching activities of the core facility (http://research1.rcsi.ie/BIP/Platform_Objectives/index.asp). The Research Engineer will operate confocal and biphoton microscopes and state of the art epifluorescence live cell imaging systems including offline image processing workstations. The Research Engineer will collaborate on designated projects funded within the NBIP and will be recognised in co-authorship of scientific journal papers as laid down in the RCSI guidelines on co-authorship. The Research Engineer will liaise with NBIP partner research facilities to co-ordinate training and project access within the RCSI facility.
Candidates will have a PhD degree in Biophysics, Physics or Life Sciences, with specialization in the field of biophotonics and microscopy imaging. Experience with laser confocal and epifluorescence microscopy of fixed/live specimens and digital imaging processing are essential requirements. Computational and programming skills applied to image analysis and data handling are desirable. Candidates will have strong organisational and communication skills, and will demonstrate experience at the cutting edge of biomedical research.
