Elevated mutation frequencies to antibiotic resistance during growth of bacterial pathogens in the biofilm mode

Job Description: The University has departments in all major disciplines and more than fifty interdisciplinary centres. This project follows from recent observations in our laboratory that bacterial pathogens exhibit an enhanced ability to develop resistance to antibiotics when growing adhered to a surface (i.e. as a biofilm).

The post, funded in part by the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC), will investigate in detail the molecular basis for this important phenomenon. You should possess (or be due to obtain) a PhD in Microbiology or a closely allied discipline.
