The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment as Research Fellow in ICT/mobile communications for a period of three years, at the Department of Information and Communication Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Science. The position is located in Grimstad, Norway. The starting date is negotiable.

The Faculty of Engineering and Science offers Master’s and PhD programmes in ICT. With more than 30 academic staff and an extensive network of Norwegian and international partner universities, the Faculty, with its regional industrial partners, constitutes one of the largest research and development environments within mobile communications in Norway.

The position is intended to address energy efficiency problems in green ICT. Potential research topics for the PhD study include:

Investigation of energy consumption factors in WLANs and multi-hop wireless networks
Design of energy-aware MAC and routing protocols in multi-hop cooperative and cognitive radio networks
Performance evaluation of energy-efficient access mechanisms and protocols in wireless networks
Emphasis will be given to the applicant’s qualifications in the following fields:

Solid background in mathematics and the modelling and analysis of communication systems
Practical programming experience and proficiency in the use of network simulation tools
Research experience
General knowledge of wireless and mobile communications
The successful applicant must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field.

The position places great demands on the applicant’s capacity for independent goal-oriented work, ability to concentrate and attention to detail. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of academic background and results, and any previous research and development work. Relevant practical experience, personal suitability and good teamwork skills will also be emphasised.

A high level of oral and written proficiency in English is required.

The Research Fellow must be admitted to a PhD programme within three months of appointment. The Research Fellow is expected to complete a doctoral dissertation within the period of employment.

The applicant must have the necessary qualifications to be admitted to the PhD programme.

Appointment is made by the University of Agder’s Appointments Committee for Teaching and Research Positions. The position is remunerated within the State salary scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017, salary grade 45 (NOK 355.600). A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
