Research Fellow in Medicine (Level A), Macquarie University , Australian School of Advanced Medicine (ASAM), Full-time (fixed-term), Ref. 21253
The successful candidate will be responsible for the conduct of research into the molecular biology of the cardiorespiratory system under the director of Professor Paul M Pilowsky and must be a self-motivated, independent worker who will participate in all aspects of research, including experimental design, data collection, data analysis, data presentation and writing of manuscripts. In addition to their own research activities, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in assisting Graduate and Honours students to become competent in areas of molecular biology and immunohistochemistry that are needed for the conduct of their research.
Essential Selection Criteria: Experience and training in molecular biology; knowledge of appropriate principles and techniques for nucleic acid isolation, extraction of DNA and RNA from specimens for use in RT-PCR, real time PCR, non-radioactive in situ hybridisation, immunohistochemistry, electrophoresis and in vitro transcription.
Desirable Selection Criteria: Experience in handling Animals (rat, mouse); collection, handling and preparations of biological animal specimens for various applications; interpretation of data, microscopy and image analysis; knowledge of neuroscience, molecular genetics, anatomical techniques and statistical analysis; use of computer programs for data analysis. The position is available on a full-time (fixed-term) basis for a period of 12 months and may be subject to probationary conditions. Selection criteria must be addressed in the application.

Package (Level A): From $53,518 pa, including base salary $48,502 to $65,600 pa, 9% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading. An appointee with a PhD will be appointed to a minimum of Point 6 on the salary scale, currently $61,155 pa.
