The Marine Biological Association carries out leading-edge research in fundamental and strategic areas of marine biology with a focus on coastal and shelf ecosystems, (www.mba.ac.uk).

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to develop an independent research group that will complement existing research strengths. MBA research is grouped into two broad areas: Ecosystems & Environmental Change and Cell & Molecular Biology. We are particularly keen to hear from outstanding researchers whose research will address key environmental issues.

The successful applicant will be expected to compete for funding through research council and other funding bodies, including NERC Thematic Programmes. Work at the interface with other research councils is also encouraged. Applicants should have an excellent track record of independent research and publications with an ability to establish and run a research group and to obtain competitive research funding. The MBA offers a range of state-of-the-art aquaria, research vessels and associated field equipment, and molecular and cellular facilities at its Citadel Hill Laboratory, Plymouth. The MBA engages in a wide range of national and international collaborations, with active research links within the Plymouth Marine Science Partnership (www.pmsp.org.uk).

The appointment will be made at an appropriate level on a scale analogous to that for research council fellowships. The appointment will be for 5 years in the first instance with subsequent extensions anticipated subject to successful development of the role. Longer-term career options may be also be arranged via a joint university position.
