Eligibility:
· BSc & PhD in relevant discipline (Electrical Engineering/ Physics)
· Programming background in industrial automation preferably with robotics background
· Previous experience of CAD & CAM systems
· Ability to develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required
· Ability to conduct individual and/or collaborative research projects
· Ability to identify potential future sources of funding and contribute to the securing of funds for research
· Ability to continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism to inform research activity
· Ability to disseminate research as appropriate eg by presentations at conferences and peer reviewed publication to assist advances in the discipline and teaching effort
· Ability to be involved in the assessment of student knowledge and supervision of projects and providing advice as appropriate
· Ability to deal with complex information of a specialist or highly technical nature.
· Ability to build internal and external contacts and participate in internal networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration or identification of future funding sources
· Ability to manage own research activities and administrative activities, with guidance if required
· Ability to work effectively both independently and in small teams
· Good presentation skills combined with an ability to communicate complex scientific & technical information to a wide variety of audiences (academic/ industrial).

Scholarship Description: The Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering has an opening for a suitably qualified candidate to participate in our ongoing research into the use of industrial robotic systems for automated NDE (Non-Destructive Evaluation) scanning. This project is based at the University of Strathclyde but may involve collaboration with our partner institutions. The successful candidate will work closely with our existing research team to develop new methodologies in automated NDE. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have good practical skills in mechanical and electrical design, as well as a capability for programming. The candidate will likely have a background in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics, and must have a PhD in a relevant discipline. Excellent communication skills will be required, along with the capability to work both independently and in small teams. The candidate must have proven relevant research track record (including evidence of publication), capability for independent research, experience of industrial robot programming and CAD & CAM systems. Experience of ultrasonic measurement systems, industrial metrology, and prior experience of non-destructive testing & evaluation would be advantageous.
