Research position in International Rice Research Institute

Job Description: This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a young researcher with strong training in microeconomics, applied econometrics, and database management. The successful candidate shall provide technical support to Agricultural Economist to conduct research on dynamics of rural poverty alleviation, constraints to technology adoption, and impact assessment. He/She shall also responsible to collect secondary data, manage and analyze large-scale longitudinal data as well as to write project reports and research papers. He/She shall assist in training activities to enhance the capacity of NARS collaborators. The position will be based at IRRI’s Bangladesh office in Dhaka.

Major Responsibilities:
1.Supervise collection, entry, and validation of household-level data. This work involves continuous monitoring of the field data collection ensure smooth implementation of project activities.
2.Manage large-scale longitudinal household data and time-series secondary data by planning database structures, data documentation, and validation to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the data. The database management requires knowledge of MS Access and CSPro Computer programs.
3.Assist IRS to analyze longitudinal data using state-of-the-art econometric methods and dissemination of research results to the policymakers and other stakeholders.
4.Assist IRS to implement an innovative research agenda dealing with impact of improved technologies, practices and policies.
5.Assist in writing technical reports for donors and scientific reports for publication in referred journal.
6.Assist in IRRI’s research and training by conceptualization and design of course outline, preparation of training materials, and serving as resource speaker.
7.Assist visitors, scholars in data processing, specification of models, and interpretations of results.
8.Perform other job-related duties as instructed by IRS and Head of the Division.
Requirements
•M.Sc. degree in economics, agricultural economics, or a related field with emphasis on quantitative methods.
•Relevant work experience preferred
•Advanced knowledge of economic concepts and statistical tools for analytical capability. Computer proficiency in the use of software packages for advanced econometric and statistical analysis. Knowledge of MS Access and CSPro. Computer programming skills. Research management skills. Skill in organizing workshops and trainings.
