Rhodes University Prestigious Postgraduate Scholarships in South Africa, 2015

Rhodes University is awarding prestigious postgraduate scholarships to all students with a strong academic record (grades 70% and above) who intend pursuing full-time postgraduate studies in 2015. The following types of scholarships will be awarded i.e. Allan Gray, Andrew Mellon, HendersonRU Postgraduate and Atlantic Philanthropies. These scholarships will be initially for one year but renewable depending on satisfactory progress for a further year at Master’s level, two at Doctoral level. The values of these postgraduate scholarships are as follows: Honours-R45 000, Master’s-R60 000 & Doctoral-R80 000 (except Atlantic Philanthropies scholarship which is worth of R100 000). The application deadline is 1st July 2014.

Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded for postgraduate studies in any one of the following six faculties: Commerce, Education, Humanities, Law, Pharmacy and Science at Rhodes University except Allan Gray available in the Commerce Faculty and Henderson available for the Faculties of Science and Pharmacy, plus Accountancy and Information Systems in the Commerce Faculty.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing postgraduate degree program (Honours, Masters and Doctoral) at Rhodes University.

Eligibility:
-The overriding criterion for the award of the Scholarship is academic merit (70%), although other factors such as service to the community, intra- or extra-murally, could be taken into account.
-Applicants may pursue postgraduate studies in any one of the following six faculties: Commerce, Education, Humanities, Law, Pharmacy and Science.
-Since these are Scholarships, financial need is not a criterion for these awards.
-Applicants must be younger than 36 years of age at the time of applying.
-Open to all citizens (except Atlantic Philanthropies Scholarship which is open to Black and Women South African citizens only and Henderson and Allan Gray Scholarship available to South African citizens).

Scholarship Open for International Students: These postgraduate scholarships are open to all citizens except Atlantic Philanthropies Scholarship open to Black and Women South African citizens only and Henderson and Allan Gray Scholarship available to South African citizens.

Scholarship Description: Rhodes UniversityRhodes University invites all students with a strong academic record (grades 70% and above) who intend pursuing full-time Postgraduate studies in 2015, to apply for any of the following Postgraduate Scholarships:
-Allan Gray: Honours and Masters: for designated groups in the Commerce Faculty
-Andrew Mellon: Honours: for designated groups in all Faculties
-Henderson: Honours, Masters and Doctoral: for the Faculties of Science and Pharmacy, plus Accountancy and Information Systems in the Commerce Faculty
RU Postgraduate: Honours, Masters & Doctoral: for all Faculties
-Atlantic Philanthropies: Doctoral: for designated groups in all Faculties; awarded initially for PhD study at Rhodes University (R100 000 p.a.), which can be extended to a one year Postdoctoral award abroad valued at $25 000.

What does it cover? The values of these postgraduate scholarships are as follows: Honours-R45 000, Master’s-R60 000 & Doctoral-R80 000 (except Atlantic Philanthropies scholarship which is worth of R100 000).

How to Apply: You may apply if you are already currently registered for your Master’s or Doctoral degree except if you are in your second year of your Master’s or third year of your PhD where applicable. Please submit the following documents:
-Complete an application form (make sure you attach all the relevant documentation as per Section D)
-A covering letter indicating intended degree and subject
-Detailed Academic Curriculum Vitae
-Contact details of three academic referees (including email addresses)
-Certified full academic transcript
-Certified copy of your ID.
-Some evidence that you have communicated with a prospective supervisor and your field of research can be supervised at Rhodes University.
An application form needs to be completed (together with all the relevant documents in Section D) and handed in at Room 206, Main Admin Building, Rhodes University on or before the closing date. Only one application is necessary as you will automatically be nominated for each award for which you qualify.
