2016 Royal London and Durham University Business School PhD Studentship in UK

Applications are invited for Royal London & Durham University Business School Studentship full-time PhD programme to study in UK. Home/EU and overseas applicants are eligible to apply for this studentship programme.

The goal of the project is to examine what is understood by the mutuality model, its meaning to constituent stakeholder groups and the value perceived of mutuality. The studentship award will cover applicant’s fees directly and the stipend will be paid into their UK bank account on a monthly basis.

Durham University and Royal London, the UK’s largest mutual life and Pensions Company, are embarking on collaborative research into the meaning and value of mutuality.

If English is not applicant’s first language they will need IELTS 7.0 (no element below 6.5) or Pearson Test of English Overall Score 70+ (No element below 62). Please note that these can be no more than 2 years old at the month the programme starts, e.g. for a programme commencing in October 2014 the IELTS or PTE test must have been taken in or after October 2012).

Course Level: Studentship is available for pursuing the doctoral research programme.

Study Subject: Studentship is awarded within the project named “The meaning and value of mutuality”.

Scholarship Award: Studentship awards:

  • The studentship is fully funded, which covers the equivalent of Home/EU programme fees in addition to a maintenance grant of £18,000 per year for a period of three years.
  • If the studentship is held by an overseas student, the holder will be responsible for paying the balance between the Home/EU fees and the overseas fees rate.
  • Studentships are not transferable and not deferrable. They are valid only for use by studentship winners in the academic year for which the studentship has been awarded;
  • There is no cash alternative to be offered if a place on the programme is not taken up.

Eligibility: To be considered for the Royal London/Durham University Business School post-experience doctoral studentship, applicants must:

  • Complete the appropriate programme application process in full and be in receipt of an offer of a place
  • Universities always consider the overall profile of each applicant, however in order to be successful in your programme application, you would normally be expected to satisfy the following academic requirements:
  • A good first degree
  • Normally a Masters degree, normally with an overall mark of 60% and a mark of at least 65% in your dissertation Experience in the finance/banking sector would be an advantage
  • Two satisfactory references
  • A research proposal
  • For those applicants whose first language is not English: an IELTS score of 7.0 (with no element below 6.5)
  • Be available to take up your programme place in October 2016
  • Be neither a current or former employee of Durham University
  • Only excellent candidates among those eligible for the programme will be considered for the studentship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Candidates wishing to register their interest should normally hold a Master’s degree. Experience in the finance/banking sector would be an advantage.

  • A 300-500 word abstract giving a summary of the Research Proposal
  • Copies of certificates of degrees awarded
  • Copies of transcripts of modules studied
  • Evidence of proficiency in English
  • Two references, one of which must be academic.
