Applicants are invited to apply for the Said Foundation Scholarships available for one year of postgraduate study at the master’s level at UK universities. The Foundation also offers one or two PhD/DPhil scholarships a year at Oxford and Cambridge universities.

This funding program supports educational opportunities and career development for students and young professionals recognized for their leadership potential. Applications are restricted to candidates who are Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian, or Palestinian nationals ordinarily resident in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, or Israel.

The Said Foundation offers twenty postgraduate scholarships annually to outstanding individuals who demonstrate the potential to become leaders and innovators of change. This includes 100% of masters tuition fees, full maintenance costs for the course duration, an arrival allowance, visa and healthcare surcharge fees, and one economy return flight.

Scholarships are primarily offered for one-year postgraduate courses, but it may be possible to consider applicants for two-year courses in exceptional circumstances.

Eligibility

• Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded in all disciplines.
• Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing a postgraduate program at the master’s level at UK universities and (exceptionally) Ph.D./DPhil level at Oxford and Cambridge universities only. Applicants for Saïd Foundation scholarships must apply to one or more of the Foundation’s partner universities. The Foundation can only consider an application for study at a non-partner university if a partner does not offer the applicant’s proposed course.

• As the Foundation’s funds are limited and it receives many applications for scholarships each year, the Board of Trustees sets criteria and priorities for applicants.
• All applicants must meet these criteria.
• Hold an undergraduate degree that is equivalent to a UK 2:1 or higher at the time of applying
• demonstrate leadership potential in your chosen field or sector
• have applied for an eligible full-time master’s course at the University of Nottingham, UK
• have work experience relevant to your field of study and a clear career path on completion of your studies and return to your home country or region – if you don’t have work experience, the foundation will consider experience gained from voluntary or community activities or participation in activities while at university
• Scholarships are offered for postgraduate study only. Applications for undergraduate study cannot be considered;
• Evidence of proficiency in English is required by the Foundation and must be at the level required by Oxford or Cambridge;
• Applicants must hold a first degree of a high enough standard to indicate that they are likely to complete their proposed course of study at Oxford or Cambridge successfully;
• Applicants cannot be considered if they have not followed the proper application procedures for
• Oxford or Cambridge and completed the Foundation’s online scholarship application form;
• Successful applicants must sign a binding undertaking to apply the skills and knowledge they have gained in one of the Foundation’s target countries (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine) on completion of their course.
• There are no restrictions on academic subjects, but candidates must demonstrate that their subject will enable them to contribute to the development of their home country.
• Scholarship Open for International Students: Applications are restricted to candidates who are Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian or Palestinian nationals ordinarily resident in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine or Israel.

How to Apply

Applications for 2023/24 scholarships are open and will close on Friday, 28th October 2022.

• How to Apply: Applications must be submitted online. Applicants should complete separate application forms for Oxford and Cambridge:
• Applicants who wish to be considered for graduate admission to the University of Cambridge and funding offered by the Cambridge Trust (including the Said Foundation Cambridge Scholarships) must complete and submit the ‘GRADSAF‘ application form online or by post to the University’s Graduate Admissions Office.
• Meet the foundation’s English language requirements of IELTS 6.0 (at least 6.0 in each element) – some courses may have higher requirements which you will need to meet and provide evidence.
