Why Your Scholarship Application Rejected?
Question: There are thousands and thousands of scholarships available to students through internet searches and scholarship guides, but no one student will ever qualify for all of them. Even if one person were to qualify for all of them, most students get disappointed by rejections or no responses.
So, what is the problem ? Please tell us why do you think many students can not qualify for scholarships and financial aid?

Got something to say?

I think many students do not take scholarship application seriously. They think that Scholarships comes FREE.
But Scholarships are not free. You need to work hard.
I have many student just sent bulk email to scholarship organisations. Which simply doesn’t work.
Then students got frusted and blame others that there are no scholarships for them.
I think students schould take time to prepare their applications.
but, if i think not all students are available to play with internet. so limited by their parent. so they never take the scholarship seriously.
maybe that all
thank’s
please i need schoolership i have a BA degree in pastoral care and counseling, realy i need to study
ignorance takes the great percentage for the failure of students.
our ill-knowledge and bad concept of time also play important role for the failure.
ok the rejection issue can be varies, i think is as result of unserious from applicants , just that anyway, but for me {james
iam a serious one

Hi Fikre Nidaw,
You are right… ignorance is a major factor..
But I’ll say .. students are careless as well..
We receive many “single line” email from students.. asking for scholarship information, which is already provided on the website.
I don’t understand.. how these students will apply for any scholarship.
any other ideas?
i will be very geartful if i am giving the oppunity to study out side my country; i came form nigeria in west african zone my family is poor to the extend that they can paid my school feees again
dear all
i think the different issues that my friends mentioned before and others compined to gether causes the rejection so i would propos to the scholarship donors to help the applicants to find the easest way to apply and win scholarships
for me is all about not being qualified ompard to others.one must qualify so we have to kow our limits.i need one this time.i really feel pity for some of my friends who have contributed something.
let the donors consider students based on their reasons and regions they come from.
I would be happy if anybody can give me a scholarship in Accounting at the undergrauate level.Presently, I have a national diploma in Accounting from one of the Polytechnics in Nigeria but my family cannot avoid the school fees. Please I want to contiue with this profession because of the passion I have it.

I really commend the scholarship donors for thier genuine efforts.Applications are rejected cos many applicants are not all that serious about it as they provide scanty information. Many are as well ignorant of the prerequisites, others see it as mere game of luck. Applicants should follow the instructions to letter by giving all the required information and do the follow ups.
I want to attend the profershionanl collage an it should be in abrode that is my drem.
Dear Yinka,
Well said, Good Point.
This is one of the factor that students are more dependent on their luck.. rather then working on their application..
Lets see what others think?
Cheers,
Amit

Dear All
Doing Ph D is so different than the other type of study. It should come from the heart of the applicant too. As it said, NO tears in the writer, no tears in the reader.
If you really not feel the Ph D subject and the area you chose, the evaluator also not feel so.
Do enough study, prepare yourself. Generally the application is not accepted because they may not be appropriate well for the process. The reason may be related to the motivation letter, organization of the content, way of dealing, choosing the guide, selection of the university, and other more information.
Hope you will be successful if you feel yourself. Be appreciative. be more serious.
Wish you all the Best.

Most scholarship application are rejected or receive no response at all.
This is because most student including myself do not really understand everything that is required for them to be eligble. Can i request therefore that there should be straight forward information leading one to get an understanding and can easily put up all that is needed in thev application.
There are some scholarship which are mostly restricted and some of us do not know how to do it. If a student has expressed interest in his/her education progression, l think there is need to properly guide such a student because most African student are living behind most of technological knowledge which is a hindrance on its own.
I, personally need such guidance.
I think one or combination of factors work.To mention them, but few, lack of access to internet, complex infprmation on requrements of Application and qualification, and incompetence.
Dear Doreen,
Thanks for your reply.
I think you have raised a very important point.
We generally try to mention in the title.. what scholarship is for what country students..
but you are right.. there might be some problem in understanding of the information…
We’ll try to update the scholarship announcements accordingly..

Dear Khem Raj Sedhai,
Thanks for your reply.
Great motivational comment..
You are right.. that…. preparation is very important.. but would you like to share more on.. how we can help students in their applications?
what help students would like to receive most?
I think some students do not work very hard towards their scholarship
and later turn to blame those working on it.
Dear all
I red all the points and I think we don’t know what is more important for who want to evaluate our aplication. we should mentioned several items in C.V that could be important thus the team can desided which of them is good. we write our C.V in our point of view. may be we’ve never take enough time to preaper the C.V. I’m Irainian and I’m realy interested to study abroad in marine hydrodynamic for PHD level. I’ll try more. the more U exemain the more U gain.
Dear Sir / Madam,
I would like to coment on the isue which has been raised from you concerning the student does’t continue to fill the forms simply i can say lack of seriousnes with what we are doing.
If not may be they faill to manage to fill the form due to lack of usage of a computer with internate.

i think of lack of kwolegde of how to apply the scholaship by using intenet cause as me in may home few people know how to use computer, its better even to send by postal writtendocuments concernig to sholarshpi it will be simple for them to complete aplication, even to me i don’t know how to use mail well,si if possible u may send to the form of sholarship by using my postal adress which is

Oh! It’s really bad for one’s scholarship appl’n to be rejected. Unfortunately, my view isn’t in line with any above. I don’t think that any one can just reject one’s application maliciously without any sounding reason.
So I think we applicants are to blame. In most cases, we apply for irrelevant programmes for which we can hardly qualify. Someone with a bias in humanterians can annoyingly apply for a science oriented scholarship. Absolutely no one can madly welcome such an application. Thank you………….
scholorship is the financial support given by the rich people or countries to the people who cannot financialize to their studies
Most people tend to believe that the information obtained on the internet is not true the tend not to be serious with it.Others dont kno how todo the application hence very dificult for them. Please i need schorlarship to complete my undergraduate degree in Agriculture.

two months ago, i had applied to study my Ms level in sociology at sheffield universty, they had also told me as my application is accepted and is being processed by sociology department of sheffield universty. Now ,i am waiting them patiently and hopefully. thank you………… debalke , addis ababa , ethiopia
In my veiw the applicant should meet at least the minimum standards required to qualify. For instance, his/her CV should impress the selecting panel and complimented by the interviews. As usual the resume provides a coherent picture of the kind of applicant the selecting team is dealing with whether he could be able to cope with the training he/she wants to persue.
Great responses guys,
we are thinking to provide application help for the students, such as how to make CV and how to apply for a scholarship..
after reading above mentioned points.. i think it would be a good idea..
what do you say guys? what help do you need most ?
like writing for a CV? Cover Letter? or please suggest anything you would like to learn..
cheers,
amit
Scholarship information is released when only a couple of days are left before the application deadline. The applicants, therefore, do not have ample time to compile the dossier.
Malawi.
I think Africans are not being treated well by the scholarship board, most especially the high school graduates. They do not have scholarships that are eligible to African high school graduates abroad. I am saying this because I have personally searched for them, so I disagree with people that made comment about unseriousness. I believe any body that searches for a scholarship is really kin about it. I request that the scholarship board should do something about Africans that want to get scholarships in schools abroad. THANK YOU.
Good question,
i think its because of impatience, somebody need to wait for his or her lucky to shine one day.
so i advise” us” who are in need not to loose the morale ,because if today its me tomorrow will be lucky for somebody else.
What I think is that Students generally don’t have much ideas regarding how to get scholarship. Also they need to know more about other institutions which provides funds to the students.
I’d be very thankful to you if you could provide with the information to the students.
with best regards
i am happy for scholarships, but most countries offering scholarships do not have embassies in most countries to take care of registration and application forms, i for am a victim cameroon is my farther land.
due to racism, favouritism, selfiness and other negative motives.
I donot know where to start to get scholarship funds. please can you give me a piece of advise?
ignorance.most people don’t follow instraction.
I think most who are aware have realised the problem , but not others majority who are in need but not knowing plenty of scholarships are announced through the internet, second internet communication is invaded by the liers who have cheated many students and so they lost hope to proceed searching , third hard criterias that poor can not always meet .
i think many poeple do not receive scholarship because they may not be qualified academically or due to other numerous reason.some may lack financial aid to meet up with the requirements.
i think many students does not have enough information about scolarship espessially thoes whoare from sub-shara African countries simply they want to go abroad the thing is lack of information but why i need scholarship to specallised my knowlage and profession
Hello all,
I am keeping a check on scholarships since two years. I have applied for prestigious scholarships like Commonwealth scholarships etc. but all i got was negative response. I just can not figure it out what went wrong with my application each time that it could not leave a mark. I had gone through the terms and conditions throughly before applying for a studentship/ scholarship. So many persons whom i think were less deserving got lucrative ones, while me still standing there and waiting for my turn to come.
I am having plenty of experience and publications in molecular biology and aspire to do Ph.D research from a reputed institute. Kindly guide me how to make a way for myself.

I think applications are rejected bcos aplicants dont know that scholarships are mearnt for specific country/programme mention for the scholarship and when you apply for scholarship not mearnt for your region or country. How will you then provide the required information? Automatically, your application will be rejected, bcos it was at the wrong place.
I have been reading and recieving the Advance-Africa news letter, and i feel so proud of it although i haven’t had an opportunity of getting a scholarship. But i like the people involved in such good iniatives.I think one time i will stand testifying when i have attained one. Am from Kigali

In most cases students are not on the right truck when they requiest for scholarship and similarely donors also have strong attitudes on CGA (Cummulative Average Grades). And because of this a lot of students are geting more than two scholarship at diffrent countries and they have also process both of them and finally they will inclined to the most benefiting ones according to them. However , in my opinian, CGA has to be given some point and also other factors just like: The commitement to serve thier own citizens in thier home country, thier privious work experiences and the position held at the time of applicvation needs to be given attention. Otherwise please dont think that U are offering the opportunities rationaly.
Cheers,
heloo all,
i agree with most the contribution concerning why most of scholarships are turned down, Technology, knowledge, exposure, availabilty of internet, and many to mention are in one way to another barriers for students to get scho;arships, according to me i see that knowledge of how to write CV, Cover letter and personal statement are the most hinderance when it come to application of schorlarships, many students have weekness when it come to these area in which as a team member we will be so thanksfully if you guys can provide a lesson/lecture on these things, am sure it will be of so helpfully to all of us.
another thing you should be more specific on the details you want from a students as sometimes the applications are so complicated as its very hard to realise wht you guys ants from us, you know a paper can not tell much about me but when we meet for oral interview there will be so easier for you to notice that am quarified or not.
thanks
My opinion on the reason why students are not getting schorlarship opportunities is the lack of awareness as a result of unavailability of communication links as publication is restricted to only internet. This strongly affects the counterparts from undeveloped and underdeveloped countries that mostly need schorlarship aid so as to enable them discover their latent God’s given capability. As a suggestion, informations should extend to the most remote areas by other means such as;local daily news, posters, handbills, local representatives, etcetera.
As a matter of facts,I personally need a schorlarship to further my accademic pursuits,so as to enable me fulfil my dreams of contributing immensely to the discovery of new technologies for the enhancement of global comfort.I’m so much limited by the environment cum financial incapability. Thanks
In my opinion, donors gives priority to CGPA and GRE as well other English tests, these is one of the main disappointed factors.thus, thus
donors had better to see experience and other mechanisms.
Form our country perspective there are so many private university college and students graduate from those university have got high CGPA. On the other hand, students graduated from governmental
university got less GPA and this also another headache for me and
my friends in our country.
i think you peolpe are not been fair and truful to student who apply for scholarship either online or otherwise, you just post a scholarship online and student will be happly when they apply and they will be expecting so thing good to come out of it at least if there is measure that is been used probabily seting exams and the student fail it will be OK by that student but in this case nothing is been use to say some one did not merit the scholarship plaese we beg you to be more object in your programs thanks form Nigeria
Because the english speak is not well, like me!!!He3x
Well, many students dont get scholarship because the way they do their things in their lives. Some may be due to there spiritual problems, some are walking around this whole wide world with many causes caused by their parents. One need to pray very hard before applying for a scholarship. Thanks. Prince from Aba Abia State Nigeria.
Dear Scholarship team,
First thank you to have asked this very important question. I think scholarships are rejeccted on the following basis:
1. The information available for applicants is either not well understood or it does not suffice;
2. Candidates lack exposure to the various academic opportunities worldwide; especially those from developing countries where information technology has not yet taken root;
3. The scholarship committees may be having too many requirements; of which if a candidate misses one is disqualified;
4. Applicants may not be hardworking individuals; scholarships come at a price, which is the education that one already hsa. However, the difference comes on how one demonstrates that capability to the panel.
And also this team shoul be providing a link on how applications; if not detailed then just guidelines.
Many Thanks, Maureen.
u know what every body should understand is nothing will be succeed with out effort.we Ethiopians should be strong to make things fine in scholars rather than others.we have to be tired less .
most scholarships available on internet do not fit for students from least developed countries. they ask state which doesn’t exist except in USA. many other criterias blocked these groups not to qualify for scholarship. I think this is done purposely to block students from poor countries.
Dear sirs:
Thank you to give this opportunity:
I think, the application rejected by different problems:
1. The applicant did not send thier information like CV and educaitonal background hounstly
2. The students did not underestand the information estated in website clearly?
3. The applicant did not oprate the internet access and web site. the communication gap b/n the student and scholarshipers.
4. Fier of educational payment and outside environment.
5. Lack of communication skill.
Specially students of developing countries have no access to join scholarships due to their economic capacity as well as the lack of access to internet .
on the other hand students scholarship is rejected due to missmatch of their qualification.
Dear Selamawit,
I think your point number 2 is really important..
* The students did not understand the information estated in website clearly
We have this problem of receiving spam like emails for scholarships..
thank for your encouraging information provided on your website to mostly the upcoming learning persons (students). my reasons are;
-some people mostly university leavers who are jobless and their parents have given up on them like in africa, find themselves poor and scholarships are not for free, meaning most applicants will be in need of free scholarships so you endup refusing scholarship applications.
-most of the time, students looking scholarships might have performed moderately not excellently and for you sponsors reject to give scholarship applications expecting to recieve more than unneeded applications. you forget that some of those could have experienced serious unhumanitarian troubles during their school time even frustration like coming to examination time, dear sponsors i don’t how far i can express my feelings about scholarships.

Scholarship application rejects could be due to lack of relevant information to prospective candidate. A more detailed and simplified information be made available to enhance student chances
students application for scholarships are rejected due to the fact that doners are seeking for large cummulative grade point rather than work experiance. If they belive GPA is objective measuerment criteria .it would be mistaken to conclude so. The other point is only few students are capable of understanding what does the content of the shoolarship website.
Thanks. Keep it again.
i am a nigerian my name is peace innocent , my question is, why is the scholarship not for under gradguate or for people just out from secondary colleges . i need a reply please am really in need for nursing scholarship and promise to work hard for it , pls help me
ignorance is the no one kill of dreams and another problem is procrastination and also some universities tend to discriminate the people who got these scholarship as was done to a friend of mine in a Nigerian University that i would not name online.
hello dear Amit and the scholarship team,
thats a very good idea of you people to give us guidence/format for making an impressive cv. 2nd major thing in scholarship application is the letter of motivation. this information and guidence i think will help all the potential candidates for the scholarship. it will be a great help, so help all by providing this.
thanks
i think all of as do not know internat properly
i am a Ugandan working in North Eastern Part (Karamoja); most disadvantaged part of Uganda. This is my mind:-
Most students especially in Africa have limited access to scholarship information and this cuts them off and yet they would wish to apply e.g in Karamoja region in Uganda computers are only seen in NGO offices.
My request to scholarship donors is please consider some of these disadvantaged areas through giving some special consideration for them, otherwise we have no option
Cheers

This is kikome Grace aged 25 years from uganda.I graduated in Bachelor of Arts in Arts Economics major. Iam kindly requesting how to apply for a scholarship at london school of economics in united kingdom.waiting to hear from you.
Iam a Zimbabwean aged 27 and hereby kindly request for more information on scholarships for Masters degree programs. It seems to me that almost Zimbabwe is no longer being taken seriously anywhere in the world. This has been prompted by the fact that there is no single scholarship program which caters for it.I am hereby appealing to anyone out there to help me to realise my dreams.I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Zimbabwe.I have been applying to various colleges worldwide and have been getting positive responses but I cannot do anything about it since I am financially crippled. Also , the situation in Zimbabwe at the moment is unbearable and ordinary Zimbabweans like us are not in a position to upgrade our our education status. If there are individuals or organizations that can help please notify me.My e mail address is fidelmb@yahoo.com
Ha ha!!From the posts above, it is glaringly obvious why these individuals can never get a scholarship. You were asked to provide reasons ‘why scholarships applications are rejected’, but unfortunately you guys were busy asking for scholarship slot!
Some up to the extent of disclosing personal tribulations.
What was even more disturbing is the quality of your English language, which was largely very faulty. So i wonder how you guys could impress any reasonable scholarship panel anywhere in this world!
Iam actually referring to the individuals who made comments with the following numbers on this page:
3,6,7,9,11,12,14,16,17,19-21,27-33,37,38,71,75
The fellows iam referring to with above numbered comments on this page should kindly wake up from their deep slumber! Its time to know that, every GOOD & BOLD move you make towards getting a scholarship is worthwhile because it offers you with an abundant opportunity to learn irrespective of the outcome of your application.
I hereby implore all & sundry to chase knowledge and explore this world. You cant be spoon-fed with knowledge; one has to strive hard amidst difficulty and barriers.
To the owners of scholarship websites like this: PLEASE SPARE TIME TO ENLIGHTEN PEOPLE IN THE FORM OF TEMPLATE CVs, MOTIVATION LETTERS SAMPLES,SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY FORMAT.
AND after doing all that: TELL THEM NOT TO USE THE GIVEN SAMPLES TO APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS BECAUSE THAT COULD AMOUNT TO SOMETHING ELSE:plagiarism, a big anti progress factor
BEST OF LUCK TO ALL.

becouse many of applicants rash to fill the form without taking time and understand the requirements
I think the main reasons for rejecting the scholarship applications are as follows:
• Many students do not take scholarship application seriously. They think that Scholarships comes FREE. But Scholarships are not free. You need to work hard.
• The Carelessness of the process every thing related to the application, thus the students should take time to prepare their applications, and the related requirements.
• Ill-knowledge and bad concept of time also play important role for the failure.
If any candidates accused or any of the above mentioned features, his application for the scholarship must be rejected and given to another eligible candidate who can succeed.
Thanks in advance,

As a victim of scholarship refusal, I think and believe that there are various reasons for this among which are:
1. Availability of Limited scholarships. Not all applicants will get scholarship because of the limited amount of funds compared to the no of people who require such funds
2. Since the fund is limited, then it is very competitive and this will go to the best applicants.
3. Some applicant do not send in the application early enough for such scholarships at time.
4. The chances are high for an already enrolled student than a prospective candidate
The idea of getting an approval from the educational authorities of the student’s country of origin distort everything. We are all aware of the chronic corruption virus that is eating up every sector in virtually all African countries. Please get the cover letter of the applicant and judge if he/she is eligible for the programme and then do the necessary verifications.
The grading system in most countries vary greatly. Some students are advantageous not because they are better than other but because the systems favours them. For example, when a lecturer writes ” Excellent” on the script of a student with a 12/20 mark, then you begin to wonder what type of grading system is applicable.
Thanks
Dear Sir,
Please to let you know that i am very much interested in getting a scholarship in any recognized university preferably in USA, UK or Canada. I’m a graduate from the University of Sierra Leone with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management and currently i’m awaiting my result in Postgraduate Diploma in Procurement Management which will be out any time before the 13th December, 2008. I’m currently working at the Institute of Public Administration and Management in the capacity as Administrative Assistant, an arm of the University of Sierra Leone.
It is my greatest desire to acquire a scholarship that will enhance my knowledge in furthering my Masters degree in Procurement or better still Masters in Business Administration - Procurement as a Major. Please help me out not only to apply but to succeed thereafter. Looking forward to receiving your response. Thanks for your attention.
please i have certificat in cisco networking and i have degree in computer sceince i need to continue in this feild i live in ethiopia i need help!!
I only started searching for scholarships this year seing that study costs at Masters Degree level are very high. I however believe that if one is to succeed in obtaining a scholarship, one have to put much effort in compiling a comprehensive application which can at least not raise many unanswered questions since most (if not all) vital information will be covered - thus boiling down to the issue raised by others “seriousness” on our behalf - who are looking for scholarships.
as a 3rd class undergraduate student in sociology, how can i get scholarship for postgraduate course.
