To be submitted by 15 September 2007

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation promotes the scientific training for foreign students in the Federal Republic of Germany, both morally and practically, by means of scholarships. This support gives foreign university graduates the opportunity of gaining a German university degree, of obtaining a doctorate, of improving their professional knowledge through post-graduate studies or of taking part in the International Degree Programmes.

In this way, the KAF would like to contribute to the education and training of junior scholars who will then fill executive and specialized posts in government and society, particularly in the areas of science, economy, politics and administration, media and cultural affairs in their mother countries as well as in international organizations.

Motivation as well as political or social commitment

We judge the qualification of junior scholars by their performance both before they submit their application as well as during the scholarship term afterwards. We expect their performance to indicate that the graduation or promotion results will be clearly above average.

However, good marks are not enough by themselves. We expect scholars to be able to look at matters from different angles, and we expect them to be tolerant, receptive, creative, and dialogue-oriented.

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation intends this value-based promotion of performance and personal qualifications to contribute towards the development of intellectual resources as well as towards peace, freedom, and international understanding.

Eligibility criteria

  • Are you an Indian national currently engaged in undergraduate or postgraduate studies who would like to acquire an academic degree at one of Germany’s universities?
  • Are you an Indian national intending to complete a course of postgraduate studies, to obtain a doctorate or to take part in the International Degree Programme?
  • Has your performance at secondary school and at college been above average?
  • Are you interested in and committed to political or social concerns?
  • Having received a grant from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, would you be prepared to occupy positions of responsibility in politics, the economy, the society, science, administration, publishing, or culture on the national and international plane?

If your answer to these questions is yes and you are not older than 30 years, you may attend the selection meeting that will be organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in New Delhi. The next meeting will be held in winter 2007 for scholarships starting in 2008.

Who can apply?

To apply for a scholarship, students need to document their qualification for and/or enrolment in a postgraduate, promotions course or a Study course of the International Master Degree Program at one of Germany’s universities. Applications from candidates who have not yet completed their preliminary examinations, or whose studies abroad do not qualify them for studies in this country, will not be considered.

Applicants must furnish documentary evidence of having completed a course of study and acquired a university degree enabling them to take up a profession. At the same time, they must furnish evidence of German language skills at the level of the Mittelstufe certificate issued by the Goethe Institute (for postgraduate studies or promotion) and they must be prepared to return to their respective home country after having completed their study project in Germany.
