Government of Afghanistan has taken various steps to provide quality education to its people after years of war, political conflicts and social unrest. Afghan Ministry of Higher Education used to send 100s of students to various developing and developed nations for higher education. These applicants are sent to study diverse educational fields at higher levels. Primary education in Afghanistan starts with religious learning which is imparted by Maulas, who are in charge of teaching the Quran and mathematics and make the students read and write. East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship  for Afghan Students

 The East-West Center, USA
Eligible Students: Applicants submit both the application for East-West Center Graduate Fellowship and the graduate admissions application.
Courses: Fellowships support graduate study (Master’s or Doctoral degree) at the University of Hawai in USA.
Award Details: The graduate degree fellowship covers the cost of tuition and fees, books, housing in an East-West Center dormitory, health insurance, and partial funding toward meals

Award Details: Awards of up to £30,000 will be awarded.

EDCTP-TDR Clinical Research and Development Fellowships for Afghan Students
Scholarship Provider:
 European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) and WHO/TDR.
Eligible Students: Applicant must be a post-graduate (MSc or PhD) or medical graduate with clinical and/or research experience in infectious diseases.
Courses: Fellowships are available to early to mid-career clinical researchers and key members of clinical trial research teams.
Award Details: The grant covers one economy class return ticket (home – host organization – home); a monthly stipend; health insurance; an allowance to cover essential educational support materials.

United Nations/Japan Long-term Fellowship Programme for Afghan Students

: The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the Government of Japan
Eligible Students: Be nationals of developing countries or countries with economy in transition; be duly nominated by their institutions.
Courses: Scholarship is available for pursuing Ph.D. students.
Award Details: The selected candidates will each receive a grant under Japanese government (Mobukagakusho: MEXT) scholarship (Research Students) of about 145,000 yen per month.

Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships  for Afghan Students

Award Details: An MMMF grant covers only a portion of the total costs for an academic year.

Eligible Students: The Dorothy Senesh Fellowships are available to women from developing countries who have completed a Bachelor’s degree
Courses: Fellowships are available for pursuing the graduate programme.
Award Details: The Fellowships provide $5,000 per year for two years for both women, for a total of $10,000 each.

WWF Prince Bernhard Scholarships for Afghan Students  in Switzerland
Scholarship Provider: WWF, Switzerland
Eligible Students: Applications from candidates doing multiple-year studies will only be considered if the applicant is applying for support for the last year of studies.
Courses: Scholarships are available for pursuing formal studies or professional training.
Award Details: The maximum amount for any one scholarship under this scheme is CHF 10,000 and preferential consideration is given to requests for less than CHF 10,000.

Gerda Henkel Fellowships for Afghan Students in Romania

: Applicant must hold Hold a Ph.D. title in the fields of the humanities and social sciences.
Courses: Fellowships are available for undertaking research projects.
Award Details: A monthly stipend of 750 € (tax free) to cover living expenses related to the stay in Bucharest

VLIR-UOS Scholarships for Afghan Master, Belgium
Scholarship Provider: VLIR-UOS, Belgium
Eligible Students: The maximum age for a ICP candidate is 35 years for an initial masters and 40 years for an advanced masters.
Courses: Scholarships are available for pursuing master’s programmes at a Flemish university.
Award Details :  Applicants can apply for incremental funding up to a maximum of € 150.000 (for 2-year / 4 semesters / 120 credits Master programmes.

2016 Global Change Leaders Program for Afghan Students, Canada
Scholarship Provider: The Coady International Institute, St. Francis Xavier University
Eligible Students: Applicant should have a minimum of four years of demonstrated leadership experience in a social or economic development
Courses: It is a seven-week education program at Coady Institute’s International Centre for Women’s Leadership.
Award Details: The Global Change Leaders program provides successful candidates with a full scholarship that includes tuition, travel, accommodations, and meals.

ICO-SAARC One-Year Subspecialty Fellowships for Afghan Students, 2016
Scholarship Provider: It is co-sponsored by the ICO and the South Asian (SAARC) Academy of Ophthalmology (SAO) and supported by the Fred Hollows Foundation.
Eligible Students: Applicant must be under 40 years of age at the time of applying.
Courses: Fellowships provide support for one year of training.
Award Details: Local and regional costs, equaling a total of nine months living costs, are covered by the South Asian (SAARC) Academy of Ophthalmology (SAO).

TWAS-USM Fellowships for Afghan Researchers
Scholarship Provider: TWAS-Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
Eligible Students: Candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in a field of the natural sciences and a regular research assignment with at least five years of postdoctoral research experience.
