Scholarships for foreign students in Slovak Republic – 2009
The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic is intended to support mobility of foreign students, PhD students, university teachers and researchers to stay at Slovak universities and research institutions.
Types of scholarships
a) Scholarships for foreign university students (enrolled at least in the 6th semester) to take part in Master study over a period of 1 to 2 semesters (from 5 to 10 months) at Slovak universities.
b) Scholarships for foreign PhD students to take a part of PhD study over a period of 1 to 12 months at Slovak universities or research institutes.
c) Scholarships for foreign university teachers and researchers over a period of 1 to 12 months to carry out teaching or research at Slovak universities, research institutes or nongovernmental organisations on the basis of an invitation.
Citizens from following countries can apply for scholarships
a) European Union member states;
b) other countries participating in the Bologna process (listed are only countries that are not EU member states) – Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, Russian Federation, Serbia, Switzerland, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Turkey, Ukraine;
c) Belarus;
d) Canada, Central American countries, Latin American countries, Mexico, the United States of America;
e) Australia, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.

The Ethiopian economy remains heavily dependent on agriculture, which accounts for about 50 percent of the GDP. An estimated 85% of the population gains its livelihood directly or indirectly from agricultural production. Coffee exports accounts for more than 65 percent of foreign exchange earnings, while processed and semi-processed hides and skins are the second important foreign exchange earners.
The level of development of the manufacturing sector in Ethiopia is at its infancy; and the country’s industrial base is very low. The share of intermediate and capital goods industry is very insignificant. The industrial sector is heavily dependent on imports of semi-processed goods, raw materials, spare -parts and fuel. In addition to imported inputs, the factories depend upon backward and subsistence agriculture for their raw material demand.
It is only fourteen years since Ethiopia began moving from a state run economy to the market economy. The country is in the process of taking various reform measures.
The industries include food processing and beverages, automotive industries which include production of components and parts, textile and textile products and garments, leather and leather products, fertilizers (mini-Plant) and chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals are some among others.
The “service” sector which consists of Trade, Transport and Communications, Banking, Insurance and Real State, Public Administration and Defense, Education, Health and Domestic and other personal services has increased
The government has initiated a privatization program since 1995/96. Since this period of time, 85% of 909 factories have been privatized. However the number of manufacturing industries at the verge of the EPRDF led government was 283 operating only 20% of their manufacturing capacity compared with 70% currently.
The government uses different mechanisms to guide the economy on the right track which lead it to the way of development. Among the others, helping the private sector to be the leader in the free market economy is the crucial one. The Development Bank of Ethiopia provides long, medium & short term loan with technical supports for privet sector on behalf of the government.

First of all I would like to thank all of you and your institution for providing the scholarship information. My name is Ali Ebrahim. I am from Ethiopia which is part of East Africa. I have Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Haramaya University in economics at 2008.Now I am working in one project which is owned by different Germen Ngos and the Ethiopian government under the ministry of capacity building. The project focuses on four areas which are private sector development, university reform, TVET system development and quality infrastructure.
Now I am very interested to continue my further education (masters) if I can get any scholarship that relates to my field.Eventhough, I have high interest to continue my further education I have not the financial strength to do so that. I am living in a third world or developing country. It is known that in such countries it is very difficult even to have good daily life. It is very difficult and impossible to continue further education in such countries. Since there is no such further education in these this creates shortage of skilled man power. There is enough and unutilized resource in these developing African countries but the main and chronic problem is that there is no skilled man power to mobilize and use such resource. Today we are living in a global system in which the change or failure in one continent or country affects the other one directly or indirectly. Our world is coming in to one village. For me it is good if I am specialized in my field which is very interesting for my country specifically and the world or globe in general. ECONOMICS, the back bone or necessary field for every country and I am also interested in any business field to specialize .So I am very happy if you provide me with a scholarship any where with any economics or business related field. Postgraduate studies in International Conflict
I am a30 years old sudanese lady am interested to make my master programm in International Conflict studies because I would like to help the people of my country, Sudan, especially the women and children of Darfur who have suffered so much in the last few years. I am particularly interest in the rights of woman. As a Muslim woman, born and raised in Sudan, I know firsthand the deprivation that women suffer in many Muslim countries. In some parts of Sudan, girls are not educated and even when they are, their education is limited to preparing them to serve as housewives and sometimes secretaries.
Many Muslim societies do not value and do not fully develop the potential of women. This is sad because as we can see in developed countries, women are as intelligent and hardworking as men and can make a huge contribution to development. The oppression of women is partly to blame for the underdevelopment of Sudan and several other predominantly Muslim countries. As a Human Rights advocate, I would like to help change this.
Also, my work both with the African Union Mission in Sudan and the United Nations has given me the opportunity to interact with people who work to advance the right of women, children, refugees, etc. I have seen firsthand the suffering that illiteracy, poverty and underdevelopment can bring to people. I believe that the problems of Darfur and Sudan are essentially problems related to underdevelopment. And the battle for development has to start with the fight against illiteracy, especially among African women.
My undergraduate education in the Arts and Humanities at the University of Khartoum gave me a very good academic background and preparation for further studies at a good university. I am fluent in English, have done most of my undergraduate education in English and also have worked with international organisations in English. Therefore, I am confident that I will do well academically and contribute to the diversity of the International Conflict master program , Even though I was born and raised in a fairly conservative Islamic society, I am quite comfortable studying, working and interacting with people of different backgrounds because I was fortunate that my father was a diplomat, so I spent some of my years abroad, and that has greatly helped me to be more open and enlightened than the average Sudanese girl.
Studying , will give me the opportunity to do an internship with one of the many human rights organisations. That will prepare me to return to my country and engage in human rights work. My career plans are to gain some work experience and ultimately, I hope to work for the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
Therefore, I would appreciate the opportunity to study for an International Conflict or peace studies .
