International Scholarship Program Tokyo Institute of Technology: Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology
The Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology at the Tokyo Institute of Technology offers scholarship to foreign students who wish to study in the above-listed graduate school.
Qualifications
1. Applicants must be foreign students.
2. This program accepts the students who plan to apply for the doctorial course and Master’s course instructed in English (International Program on Effective Utilization of Technology,
Economics Program at Department of Social Engineering and Department of Human System Science) in the above-listed graduate school (for the entrance in April 2009, or for the entrance in October 2009).
Scholarship Benefit
Grantees will be given one million (1,000,000) yen for PhD student and seven hundred thousand (700,000) yen for Master student after their entrance conditioned to work as a Research Assistant (doctorial course) or Teaching Assistant (Master’s course) for one year only.
Deadline
Applicants must submit the following documents to the graduate school of decision science and technology, Tokyo Tech by November 14, 2008 (for the entrance in April 2009) or December 5, 2008 (for the entrance in October 2009).
Required Documents
1. Official transcript of the student’s academic record (graduate or undergraduate school of the university)
2. Proposal of research field and research program (2000 words, at least)
3. Score of TOEFL or TOEIC taken within two years before the application date (native speakers of
English are exempted).
Selection
1. All documents submitted are considered for selection.
3. This program gives priority to students at universities that have an agreement with Tokyo Tech.
4. Notification of the selection results will be provided in the beginning of December 2008 (for the entrance in April 2009) or in the end of March 2009 (for the entrance in October 2009).
5. In the case that the selected candidates do not pass the entrance exam of the above-listed graduate school , the acceptances will be cancelled.
Important Notice:
It should be noted that the application deadline for the entrance examination may be different from above mentioned dates. The applicants are strongly advised to check the process of application to enroll in the graduate programs and their deadlines by themselves.

Let me introduce you myself first. My name is Birhanu Desalegn Mihretie who graduated from Jimma University Faculty of law, Ethiopia in LL.B (first degree in law) on 05 July 2007. Now I am working & giving the public service in the Ministry of Transport & Communications as a legal expert starting from December 11 2007 to date. My responsibilities among others is; drafting laws & contract documents, giving consultancy service to the ministry works, representing the ministry when it is sued & sues,& conducting various legal researches concerning the institution. To deliver & perform my responsibility fully to the rate that my country expected & to participate in the development endeavors of my country by making myself part of the solution I need further education. Hence it is my firm motive to study my LL.M (second degree in law) in Netherlands.
Though I am interested & able to learn I can’t do this because of my incapacity to pay for the program as I am from Ethiopia which is one from the least developed countries. I am a Kenyan with Bsc Degree in Water and Environmental Engineering from Egerton University Kenya. My interest is to pursue a graduate study in Water Resources Engineering and Management. This follows the fact that knowledge and capacity are critical factors in development. An effective water sector depends on strong competencies and capacities of institutions, communities and individuals alike, as well as a solid knowledge base. Similarly, due to the increased capital investment, operational and management problems associated with large piped surface water supply schemes, there is a need to put a number of small integrated or discrete water based systems which can only be achieved with proper and adequate research in Water Resources Engineering and Management.
The sustainable planning and management of the existing / available resources as well as the systems implementation presents a lot of challenges especially so with low economic level which must start to be counteracted with the knowledge gained from the course.
I however would like to confirm if am eligible to apply for this scholarship being a product of Egerton University, since this program gives priority to students at universities that have an agreement with Tokyo Tech.

I am a Kenyan secondary school teacher interested in pursuing a doctorate in educational planning from a Japanese university. I have a masters in educational planning from the university of Nairobi, Kenya and a bachelor of education science, from Egerton University, Njoro, Kenya. I have been teaching since 1998 and have managed to study for a masters degree through the school based program. Due to the poor pay by the government, I have had to strain to pay for the masters by borrowing a loan from our teachers SACCO. I would wish to start on my PhD immediately but I can’t due to financial strain.
