Scholarships for Southern African Countries, University of Edinburgh, UK
The University of Edinburgh Southern African Scholarships
The University of Edinburgh will offer two scholarships for postgraduate study in any subject offered by the University to students from Southern African countries. One of the scholarships will be available for a one year Master’s degree programme and the other scholarship for a three year PhD degree programme.
The scholarship covers the overseas rate of tuition fee and University accommodation for the duration of the postgraduate degree programme.
Eligibility
The scholarship will be awarded to applicants from Southern African countries who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master’s programme of study or PhD degree programme at the University of Edinburgh. Applicants may apply from the following countries:

Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so. Further details on how to make a postgraduate application can be found on the University website at www.ed.ac.uk/studying/postgraduate
Criteria
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, the international equivalent of a UK first class or 2:1 Honours degree at undergraduate level.
Application Procedure
Candidates applying for the one-year Master’s scholarship should send a two page statement outlining what they expect to gain from their Master’s programme and how it will enable them to make a future contribution in their home country. In addition, applicants should send a transcript and the names of two referees. The referees may send their letters separately.
Candidates applying for the PhD scholarship should send a statement (around three pages) of their intended research including a rationale for the project and the intended methodology; a transcript of results obtained in a relevant first degree; and the names of two referees. The referees may send their letters separately.

I am in the Range and Pastures Section at Matopos Research Institute. I have gained very invaluable experience in rangeland research during my course of work. Am a holder of MSc – Social Ecology (University of Zimbabwe, 2007). Worked as Principal Research Officer at the National Herbarium and Botanic Garden for 8 yrs until I got fed up of seeing my family starving whilst I worked for literally nothing as a civil servant. My salary was just not adequate even for busfare to work for just a fortnight.
My problem is I want to further my studies, that is, study for a PhD in the field related to natural resources management but cant have resources to put up a good thesis proposal since I cant afford travelling to any library and access to internet is just beyond my reach due to the economic situation in my country. Imagine a holder of an MSc surviving on vending. I have two publications but now having been staying at home for almost 2 yrs i am getting rusty and useless.
Please can you assist me get a job at any University which can allow me an opportunity to get started once again so I can pick it up from where I left my research interests in ethnobotany or at best get fully funded PhD opportunity.
