Scholarships for Southern African Students-Rhodes University
August 6, 2008
The scholarships are sponsored by the Knight Foundation. These are partial scholarships which cover only the student’s accommodation at Rhodes University, the PDMM tuition fees and books and study materials.
This means that successful applicants must make their own arrangements for transportation to and from Rhodes University; medical insurance and a living stipend during the year. Non-South African students should additionally budget about R3500 (three thousand and five hundred rand) to cover a levy for foreign students studying at Rhodes University.
The PDMM is a one-year, full-time programme designed to provide people working in the media industry with skills and knowledge they need to perform more effectively in their organisations and to fast-track their careers to management positions.
The PDMM is equivalent to an honours degree and combines rigorous theoretical and practical grounding. The diploma is composed of eight compulsory modules covering media economics and financial management; media markets, audiences and advertising; managing media content; managing circulation and distribution; media management and leadership; media management contexts, policy and institutions; new media and convergence;
and human resources.
Application details and procedures: Students from Southern Africa are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Applicants should ideally come from media companies which are currently using or experimenting with new media, besides their traditional business platforms. Successful applicants will be required to conduct research into the use of new media platforms by a Rhodes University-owned newspaper, the Grocott’s Mail.
Applicants should ideally have completed an undergraduate degree from a recognised university. Experienced media practitioners
with diplomas in journalism or mass communication studies will also be considered.
Students wishing to apply for these scholarships need to:
Complete the Rhodes University’s standard Honours application form and the New Student form. Alternatively, they can request these application forms from SPI administrator Linda Snam (l.snam@ru.ac.za) or telephone her at +27-046-603-8782.
Deadline for applications: October 17, 2008. No late applications will be considered.

My name is Benaiah Mhlanga. I turned 19 years on 23rd July 2008. I did and completed both my O,and A.levels at Moleli High School here in Zimbabwe.
My ambitions are that I proceed with my education at any University in the world, preferably in South Africa. I intend to study business law or any other following close to that.
The problem is that my situation has become desperate in that my parents cannot afford anymore to send me to college especially with our present Zimbabwean hyper-inflation.
Now is there anyone out there who understands my plight and is ready to come up with some answers.
Please assist and advise.

I am a fourth year student at African Bible College in Malawi, Central Africa. We are in second week but i have not yet get registered because of tuition problem. This could have been my final year but it seems i will fail to complete this year. I therefore appeal to any well wisher to help me. I need about $2485 to get re gistered. Pliz take you time to read the document below.
GOD IS INTERESTED IN HIS OWN GLORY
God is interested in His own glory thus why He created every thing including man to glorify Him forever, but man rebelled against God by disobeying the commandment of God. God is love which is demonstrated in coming into the world to dwell with us in the son Jesus Christ who died on the cross to redeem us from the power of sin. Once we were dead but now we are living in the Son. Our spirits are being sustained by spiritual food which has been given by God Himself “THE WORD” (THE BIBLE). The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the word for our spiritual growth in knowing the will of God for our lives and OBEDIENCE to God’s word is the key to spiritual growth.
DUETERONOMY (11: 8-29)
God COMMANDED the Israelites to possess the land of Canaan, but they were to observe the commands to have strength. (V8). The land that were to possess was flowing with milk and honey (v9). But physically, Palestine is a rock, mountainous and has valleys without enough water; how can such a land flow with Milk and Honey?
This was contrary to the need of Israel for they need green pasture for their livestock and rain for their crops.
God needed them to wholly depend on Him for their provisions as He clearly state” the land is different from Egypt, where you planted and irrigated the crops, but the land, drinks rain from heaven. It is the land the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your god are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end”.(vs 10-12). God wanted to glorified by the Israelites through their TOTAL dependence on Him for their provisions in the rock land by: 1. observing the commands
2. Worship
3. Bringing petitions to him
WE GLORIFY GOD IF WE DEPEND UPON HIM IN EVERYTHING THAT WE DO.
The Israelites obeyed God by going ahead to possess the land regardless of its conditions. Had it been they never obeyed, they could have missed the blessings (gift) that accompanies the purpose. This land was good because it came from the Lord for every good thing comes from God
WE MUST ALWAYS OBEY THE COMMANDS OF GOD REGARDLESS OF THE CIRCUMSTANCE OR SITUATION, OTHERWISE WE ARE GOING TO MISS THE HIS BLESSINGS.
Sometimes we tend to forget the source of our provisions by depending on what we have and / or we fail to take a step considering condition of the situation we are stepping into. Let us therefore, take a step for God want us to be where in has instructed us to be for His own GLORY and for our own GOOD.
AMEN
MY EXPERIENCES
One day in September, 2004, on my way home from the work place I met some kid who used to live in the streets of our city Lilongwe. I was interested to know them. I therefore, engaged in conversation with them and I learnt that they belong to Youth care Ministries, a youth organization that minister to vulnerable, orphans and at risk youth living around the city of Lilongwe in Malawi, Central Africa.
I was interested to know this organization of which I did the following week, but I noticed that it was lacking enough personnel to teach academics and the WORD of God. From then on I used help in these two areas during my free time. The need was so great considering the number of the youth which was growing by each passing day compared to two volunteers then. I was enjoying so much interacting with the youth, helping them which made our friendship to grow very strong.
I felt satisfied because I new I was serving nobody but God. I spent some weeks praying whether to continue with my previous job or join this youth organization, later I decided to quit the my job and join Youthcare Ministries full time on voluntary basis which resulted into giving me another responsibility of taking care on all the transactions of the organization (accounts clerk) because I was pretty sure that God wanted me to serve Him in this Ministry.
Since by then I had a certificate in financial accounting I could do some piece works during my free time to make end meet I LOVE GOD; I LOVE KIDS (THE YOUTH) with the LOVE of Christ that is why I wanted to help them both physically and spiritually in obedience to the work of God which say; “I tell you the truth whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me”.(Matthew 25:40)
The Holy Spirit gave the passion to serve the Lord not only through ministering to the youth but also the community surrounding our city as well because of the need that our city has, but I was not theologically trained therefore, I needed to do Theological education.
I like doing accounting job and I like the career but the need of the ministry needed me to be theologically trained to be effective. I shared the news with the Director of the youth organization, he only told me to put it into the hands of god through prayer. After four months from the day I shared the news with my boss I was convinced that God wants me to serve him full time therefore, I gave in the idea of continuing with accounts but to go to theological college for training.
I applied and sat for entrance examinations at AFRICAN BIBLE COLLEGE. Fortunately I was accepted to start as a freshman at first attempt despite the stiff battle for limited place of forty per year in August, 2005. You Know what? I had NOTHING to pay for tuition; I had no hope. But God wanted to teach me to rely on nothing, not my wisdom but Him to fulfill his purposes in and through me.
God acted at the time when I was still. Barely two weeks school opening day, an American friend from San Diego ( Gijo) who came to visit our organization with One Truth Outreach promised to sponsor my freshman year. Indeed God’s time is always the best. First Semester of second year I was partly helped by some friend from the same group but second semester was the start of disaster.
The little that I could source was enough to be allowed to get registered. Now things have beecome very tough as I am writing u i have not yet get register but we are in the second The balance I need to pay is too big for me. I was sent home twice, first and second week but because there in a nothing at home to pay, I just came back again. the balance is $2750.
Compelled by this situation I am asking for assistance from you brothers and sisters and churches to help me in squaring up the balance for continuation of my education. In a situation like this even a letter of confirmation that someone will take care a specified amount can help. It can serve as evidence to the administration. This is the address of our finance officer. COPY ALL EMAILS TO AFRICAN BIBLE COLLEGE THROUGH THIS ADDRESS : elchinyanga@yahoo.com ( finance officer)
I have taken a step by doing guarding scholarship in school campus which will only cater for 10% of the balance. I have also taken a step by contacting some friend but nobody has come to my rescue. May be it is not time let us wait and see what GOD Himself will do for is know the best and perfect time of answering His children’s prayers.
ABOUT MYSELF
I am the only child to my mother who is insane, my father died when I was two years old; I therefore, take care of my mother’s need and mine.
I was raised up by my uncle (my mother’s brother). He brought me up like his own child until I finished my high school and a short course in accounting. But now he cannot afford to support me because he earns very little a month to take care of his five children and me.
I am a grown up I am suppose to support my as the word of GOD Says, “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life to mind you r own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that you r daily life may win the respect of outsiders, and so that you will not depend on anybody( Thessalonians 4:11-12)
In light of the above command I have arranged with Youthcare Ministries to add some working hours on top of Thursdays (Tuesday and Saturday free time) on voluntary basis to raise the much needed tuition. It is hard to combine schooling, guarding at night and work during almost all my free time but GOD who is the source of unlimited strength will sustain me. Pray for me. I hope i will hear from you soon
GOD BLESS YOU.
