Job Description: The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) as a member of the Helmholtz Association, is the largest scientific organization in Germany. Currently, the DKFZ is about to establish the largest sequencing facility in Germany and the first national sequencing center in Europe dedicated to systems biology

The Genomics and Proteomics Core Facility is looking for two Bioinformatians or Computer Scientists in the field of Next Generation Sequencing.

Successful candidates will be responsible for secure handling and processing of large amounts of high throughput sequence data. They will be responsible for the development and application of software tools for quality evaluation and analysis of project-specific sequence data in close collaboration with scientists.

Applicants should hold a diploma/master degree or equivalent qualification in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related fields, preferably having a solid background in application of sequence based bioinformatic tools and basic knowledge of molecular genetics. The applicants should provide basic skills in LINUX and Windows operating systems and administration. Strong background of at least one programming language (Perl, Python, Java, C++ etc.) as well as basic web programming skills are mandatory. Experience with analysis, processing and assembling of next generation sequencing data (454, Solexa, SOLiD) for various applications like resequencing, ChIPSeq, transcriptomics, genotyping etc. are of advantage. Candidates must have strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
