Senior Research Associate:Molecular Dynamics and EPR Spectroscopy, UK
Job Description: This postdoctoral position is available with the group of Dr Vasily Oganesyan to work on the project “Molecular Dynamics and EPR spectroscopy: new structural tools for biology”. The post is funded by the Leverhulme Trust for 2 years. The postholder willbe involved in all areas of the project, including Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations on proteins with attached paramagnetic nitroxide spin labels and developing methods for prediction and analysis of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectra from MD results. The School of Chemistry Chemistry was one of the first disciplines established as a School of study at UEA in the early 1960’s. We have a reputation for a long and distinguished tradition of high quality research.
The School has an active research programme in chemical sciences and has, over the past five years, been awarded substantial funding to provide laboratory refurbishment and the acquisition of major new instrumentation. Chemistry research is led by 28 faculty members working in conjunction with 31 postdoctoral fellows and over 76 postgraduate students. Every part of the School is involved in cutting-edge research activities, having an impressive track record in attracting grants and generating outstanding publications.
Chemistry research activity is focused within three broad themes; Physical and Analytical Chemistry, Synthetic Chemistry, and Biophysical Chemistry. In addition there are many cross theme activities and two research centres have been established – Energy Materials Laboratory and Centre for Metalloprotein Spectroscopy and Biology – which draw members from across the faculty. Chemistry research at UEA is vigorous and successful. In the 2008 research assessment exercise all of our research was rated as at least internationally recognised, with much rated world leading or internationally excellent. Since January 2001 more than £18.4M has been spent on research activities from Research Council, EU,charitable and industrial sources. At the same time the number of faculty has increased from 21 to 28, with major appointments in nanoscience and synthetic chemistry. Collectively the total current (2009) research grant holding is £13
million. The School has typically around 40 postdoctoral research assistants and 60-70 postgraduate students.
