Several PHD positions in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Description : MaNEP is a broad network of Swiss universities focusing its activities on the research and development of novel materials with promising electronic properties. The DPMC is MaNEP’s leading house, and has a long tradition in the studies of metallic materials with unconventional behavior. Researchers in the DPMC can rely on several top-quality experimental setups (high magnetic field magnetotransport, transport under pressure, specific heat, optical spectroscopy, scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopy) as well as crystal and thin-film growth facilities. Job description — Starting between June and December 2008, the successful candidates will join the group of Prof. Øystein Fischer, Prof. Dirk van der Marel, Prof. Alberto Morpurgo, Prof. Patrycja Paruch, Prof. Jean-Marc Triscone, or Prof. Christoph Renner to work in one of our research specialties (strongly correlated materials, high-temperature and novel superconductors, colossal magnetoresistance, surface and interface magnetism, ferroelectric field effect on carbon nanotubes, spintronics, dielectric, ferroelectric, and multiferroic oxides, artificial oxide structures). They will be affiliated to the newly created MaNEP doctoral program. The appointment is for a period of 3 to 5 years with a starting salary of 49’394 SFr per year. Requirements — Applicants should have a master or equivalent degree in physics. Preference will be given to candidates with a solid background in condensed matter physics and relevant laboratory experience. A good level of written and spoken English is required.
