SIA Youth Scholarship in Singapore for Indian Students: Applicatin Deadline 15 July 2009

The SIA Youth Scholarship is tenable for 2 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced’ (GCE ‘A’) Level (or equivalent) certificate. Students who perform well in the GCE ‘A’ Level (or equivalent) Examination may apply for the undergraduate scholarship offered by the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University or the Singapore Management University. Please click on the links above for more details on undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships.
The Scholarship is for 2 years of Pre-University studies in selected Singapore Junior Colleges and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar.
Eligibility
Students who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for the scholarship:
- Nationals of India
- Born between 1991 and 1993 in the year of application (2009)
- Completed Standard 10 in the Year 2009
- Possess outstanding academic track record ( at least an average of 85% with English as first language in the Standard 10 State/National examinations

Candidates short-listed for the selection test/interview will be notified a week before the selection test/interview dates. We regret that only short-listed candidates will be notified.

Applicants are to choose only ONE mode of application, either (1) or (2) below:
- Online Application System (preferred mode of application)
- Hardcopy Application Slips available in Times of India (Education Times) and The Hindu (Education Plus) in June 2009.

Terms and Conditions
- Allowance of S$2,400 per annum with hostel accommodation
- Hostel accommodation provided
- Settling-in allowance of S$500 (once only)
- Economy class air passage to Singapore and back to home country upon completion of course
- Waiver of school fees (excluding miscellaneous fees)
- Waiver of GCE ‘A’ Level examination fees (once only)
- Subsidised medical benefits and accident insurance cover
- There is no bond attached to the scholarship

I’m G. Marina Sandarenu Perera, Studying in Sri Lankan university (Sabaragamuwa university of Sri Lanka). It is one of the reputed government universities in Sri Lanka. I’m studying as a final year student belongs to Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences. I’m following a four year (Special) Food Science and Technology degree program. I will be completing my degree program in December this year.
Nowadays I’m studying successfully for the finals. I have already obtained a second class upper and I’ve scored pretty good marks for all previous three years. I have become the batch top during 2nd year 1st semester and 3rd year 2nd semester (GPA 4.0). I have the assurance that I will be able to capture a first class position at the end of my degree. I’ve successfully done my 4th year 1st semester mini project (develop a veggie tofu burger by enhancing nutritional value and flavor) and the project report is being attended to these days. I wish to do my final year research project in Unilever Ceylon Ltd Company Sri Lanka. It will be commenced in early September this year.
I strongly need to pursue my education up to doctoral level. But the only problem that I face at the moment is that I do not have sufficient money to pursue my education since my father and mother both are retired government servants. I would be very much grateful to you if you would kindly assist me to do my Msc or PhD in abroad.
I would like to join your on going researches and give my fullest co-operation to complete them successfully. Could you please grant me an assistantship in any research projects under taken by you? And I have to say that I will be able to immediately join in your research work just after my completion of the degree in this year.
