Sign Language scholarships at the Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand

Job Description: The Sign Language Interpreting Scholarship is in place to support students who want to train as sign language interpreters and who intend to work with children in the education sector.
Priority will be given to applicants who are fluent in te reo M?ori or a language in addition to English that is used by children who attend early childhood centres and schools in New Zealand; and to those who have support from their Iwi or Ministry of Education Special Education regional office. Scholarships will also be available to those without a second spoken language who have proven academic ability and hardship.

As there is only one course available in New Zealand, scholarship recipients who have had to relocate to Auckland to attend the course or who are regularly travelling in excess of 50km to attend class may be eligible for travel and accommodation assistance to a maximum of $3000 a year on top of their scholarship payment.
What is the purpose of the award?
The Ministry is offering these scholarships to both help build the capability of the sign language interpreting workforce and to provide children from a range of cultural backgrounds with more culturally responsive services.

Duration and structure of study: There is one course of study supported by this scholarship:
* The Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT).

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must:
* be accepted onto the course listed above.
You are not entitled to this study award if you:
* are not accepted onto the course listed above
* are repeating failed courses.
What does the scholarship provide?
* $3,000 per year of study
* travel and accommodation assistance up to $3,000 per year (if eligible).
