With support from its “Special Research Fund” (BOF), Ghent University is delighted to offer Special Research Fund – Co-funding for Chinese candidates holding a CSC-grant.
With support from its “Special Research Fund” (BOF), Ghent University wishes to support university research groups or research centres in developing countries in their aim to grow into excellent research centres by upgrading local academic personnel.
Ghent University is a top 100 university and one of the major universities in Belgium. Our 11 faculties offer a wide range of courses and conduct in-depth research in both exact and social sciences. Ghent University aims to encourage its students to adopt a critical approach within a creative, development-oriented educational and research environment.
Course Level: Grants are available to pursue PhD research programme.
Study Subject: Candidates can look for a Ghent University promoter (=supervisor) in their domain of interest by browsing the list of faculties and research topics.
Scholarship Award: The co-funding consists of financing for living and accommodation (about €5.400/year), insurance (about €500/year) and a bench fee for the promoter (€3.720/year).

Scholarship can be taken in Belgium
Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:
- Candidates must have the Chinese nationality and must apply for a CSC-grant in 2018 or be a PhD-student at Ghent University with a CSC-grant.
- Candidates can look for a Ghent University promoter (supervisor) in their domain of interest by browsing the list of faculties and research topics.
- Candidates can apply maximum two times for a CSC-co-funding scholarship.
- This co-funding is intended for students who either want to obtain a PhD degree at Ghent University or who want to take a joint PhD at both Ghent University and their Chinese home university. Students who want to obtain a PhD degree at their Chinese home university only, are not eligible for this co-funding initiative.
Nationality: Chinese applicants are eligible to apply for this grant.

Entrance Requirements: This co-funding is intended for students who either want to obtain a PhD degree at Ghent University or who want to take a joint PhD at both Ghent University and their Chinese home university.
English Language Requirements: The applications for grants for Chinese candidates are to be submitted in English.
How to Apply: The Ghent University promoter has to fill in a separate document with advice on the candidate, stating the promoter’s opinion on the capability of the candidate as a future researcher. This document is available on the same web page as the application form. The promoter has to send this advice to BOFapplication-at-UGent.be.
