Swire Educational Trust Scholarships at St Antony’s College in UK, 2017

Swire Educational Trust is pleased to offer up to four fully funded Swire Centenary & Cathay Pacific and Swire/Cathay Pacific scholarships to graduate students for the year 2017-2018. The scholarships are open to applicants who are permanent residents of Japan or China and Hong Kong.

The Swire Educational Trust has a longstanding relationship with St Antony’s College and has over many years funded numerous scholarships for both students and Academic Visitors.

The university main objective is to provide high quality, comprehensive educational and training opportunities that are compatible to changing needs of the students. St Antony’s College is the most cosmopolitan of the seven graduate colleges of the University of Oxford, specialising in international relations, economics, politics and history of particular parts of the world.

If applicants’ first language is not English they must be able to provide recent evidence that their spoken and written command of the English language is adequate for the programmes for which they have applied.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing graduate degree programme.

Study Subject: St Antony’s College accepts students in a wide range of subjects in the Social Sciences and Humanities Divisions but not in courses in the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences or Medical Sciences Divisions.

Scholarship Award: 100% of university and college fees and a grant for living costs of £17,100 per year (2015/16 rate). Economy airfares to and from London are provided at the beginning and end of the scholarship. The award is made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course. If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based upon satisfactory academic progress.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for this scholarship:-

  • The scholarships are open to applicants who are permanent residents of Japan or China (for the Swire Centenary & Cathay Pacific awards) or Hong Kong (for the Swire/Cathay Pacific awards) who have completed the majority of their formal education in Japan (for Japanese permanent residents), China (for Chinese permanent residents) or Hong Kong (for Hong Kong permanent residents).
  • The scholarships will be awarded primarily on academic merit, although financial need may be taken into account.
  • Scholars must intend to return to Japan (for Japanese permanent residents), China (for Chinese permanent residents) or Hong Kong (for Hong Kong permanent residents) after completing their course of study. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to pursue a career in government, business, academia or a recognised profession.
  • Applicants must apply for admission to a graduate course of study that is offered by St Antony’s College to start in 2017/18. College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must apply for admission to a graduate course of study that is offered by St Antony’s College to start in 2016/17.

Graduate Scholarships

How to Apply: In order to be considered for this scholarship, candidates must submit their application for graduate study to the University by the January deadline (6 or 20 January 2017 depending on the programme applied to – check the University’s guidance on application deadlines) and must have secured a place on their chosen programme of study by the expected final decision date (17 March 2017). Applicants must also complete a Swire Scholarships application form and email it to the Assistant College Registrar by the deadline. In addition to the application for the scholarship, the applicant must submit the following documents:-

  • Statement of purpose and research proposal
  • Official transcript
  • Written work
  • Portfolio
  • Mathematics admissions exercise
  • English language test score certificate
  • References
