Merit based scholarships for Art students at St. Olaf College

Job Description: St. Olaf art scholarships are merit-based scholarships that are awarded to students with exceptional art talent. Students may also qualify for additional need-based aid, in which case the art scholarship is a component of the student’s financial aid package.

Up to ten awards of $6,000 per year are open to art majors and non-art majors. These are renewable scholarships that require the recommendation by the art faculty. It is potentially a $24,000 4-year scholarship.

Art scholarship applications are accepted beginning September 8, 2010 and until January 15, 2011. Students applying for the scholarship must have submitted a Common Application and St. Olaf Supplement to Admissions by January 15, 2011.

Application Procedure

Applicants must submit their application to us online.

The application requires responses to 8 questions and the submission of 10 examples of your work (not less, not more)*. You will be able to edit and save your application online until you press the ‘submit’ button, and you will receive immediate confirmation that we received your work.

Applicants may upload images (jpg), video (mov, wmv, flv), music (mp3) or PDF documents. For good image quality and fast upload, your image files should be sized with a max dimension of 1024px. Please keep video files under 60MB each. Our online portal offers additional instruction for submitting work.
You will be asked to respond to these 8 questions:
1. Why are you interested in the studio art and/or art history program at St. Olaf College?
2. What would you consider as your areas of strength in art and/or art history?
3. Have you had a significant mentor in art? If so, briefly describe that experience.
4. List any art exhibitions you have been a part of, and please indicate if they were competitions you entered.
5. List honors and awards you have received.
6. Is there a significant art event or exhibition that you have attended that made a lasting impression on you?
7. To what other schools do you intend to apply?
8. Briefly summarize any other information that you feel would strengthen your application.
