Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:
One PhD Position in Practical Philosophy
at the Department of Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy announces a vacant 4-year PhD position in practical philosophy. The holder of the position will pursue his/her doctoral studies full-time and is expected to participate actively in departmental activities, by attending seminars, etc. The position might also entail teaching and other assignments. Skills in Swedish are not required. The position is available from 2008-09-01.
During the first two years, the successful candidate will receive “utbildningsbidrag”, which represents a salary of approximately 15000 sek/month. During the following years, s/he will hold a “doktorandanställning” where the starting salary currently is 21800 sek/month. The position is a proper employment the holder of which qualifies for the standard Swedish social benefits, such as paid parental leave.
Briefly stated, practical philosophy includes value theory, ethics, meta-ethics, social philosophy, political philosophy, bioethics, philosophy of law, æsthetics, philosophy of education, philosophy of religion, and the philosophy of the social sciences and humanities. Decision theory and philosophy of action, as well as history of philosophy, are included in both practical and theoretical philosophy.
Please note that admission for the PhD at Uppsala University is highly competitive and that a Masters Degree in Philosophy or equivalent at the time of application is a pre-requisite for a successful application. It is expected that a decision will be made by end of April. Applications will not be returned.
