Post-doctoral Fellow in Network Traffic Analysis

Applications are invited by the Communication Systems Group (CSG) at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, for a
postdoctoral position in the area of network traffic analysis. The Communication Systems Group
[http://www.csg.ethz.ch/] conducts high-quality research on Future Internet Architectures, Network
Measurements and Security, Wireless Mesh Networks, and Delay Tolerant Networks.

Scope
The focus of this position is on the analysis of network traffic data. The Communication Systems Group has
access to a comprehensive NetFlow data archive from a medium-sized national Swiss ISP (non-anonymized and
unsampled NetFlow records). With the help of this data, we are in a unique position to conduct cutting-edge
research in the area of backbone traffic analysis and network security.

We are seeking candidates to conduct research in:
• Network monitoring and network trace analysis
• Tools and methods for the detection of network anomalies
• Application classification in NetFlow traces
• Anonymization of network traces

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
• Leading a group of motivated Ph.D. students conducting research in the area of network traffic analysis
• Participation in academic and industrial research projects
• Acquisition of new research projects and funding
• Participation in teaching duties with the possibility of lecturing

This is a post-doctoral, grant-funded full-time position with a very competitive salary. The successful candidate
has a formal working contract as ETH Zurich staff member.

Requirements
Successful candidates should have:
• A PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science or engineering, or a closely-related field. PhD
students are welcome if they expect to receive their degree before mid 2008
• A track record in highly competitive scientific conferences and journals with global impact in the fields
of network measurements and traffic analysis, network security, traffic engineering, or a closely related field
•Excellent English language skills

The candidates should be able to work both independently and as team players in local and international research
teams.
