Application Procedure :

Applications for Hall Ticket may be submitted online.

Please refer http://www.ncbs.res.in/ Students who wish to apply online and make payment by DD may take a print of their application and send it with the Demand Draft with their name and reference code written behind the DD.

Students from remote areas ONLY may apply for a Hall Ticket on plain paper stating:

(1) name, current address, date of birth, e-mail address, subject of choice, preferred test centre
(2) Two passport size photographs : One pasted and one stapled to the application.
(3) A Stamped (Rs.20/-) and self-addressed envelope (25cm x 17cm) superscribed “GS-2009 (Subject)”.
(4) Demand Draft.

Payment Option :

2)Send DD by post along with application and other material.

Demand Draft :

DD should be drawn on State Bank of India payable in Bangalore to “National Centre for Biological Sciences”

Application Fee (Non-refundable):

Regular applicants : Rs. 350
Walk-in candidates: DD of Rs. 700/-

Fee Waiver :

A waiver of the application fee on grounds of financial distress may be requested by a letter from the Principal or the Head of the Department justifying the request. Please download the hall ticket application form from the “downloads” section of this website, print it, fill it and send along with photographs and the letter from the Principal / HOD. Please note that applications with fee waiver request will be issued hall tickets as per availability of seats.

Please note :

a) Hall tickets will be issued after receipt of application fee.
b) Students applying online will be able to login to their account and generate their hall ticket after their payment has been approved
c) DDs with wrong denomination will not be returned and hall ticket will not be issued.

Last date for receiving applications for Hall-tickets: OCTOBER 14, 2008.

Scholarship :

For Ph.D. and Integrated Ph.D. programmes, the academic year starts from August 1, every year. The academic year for M.Sc. programme at DBS begins from July 1, every year.

The M.Sc. (Wildlife and Conservation) programme at NCBS begins from July 2008, every alternative years.

Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 12,000/- (enhanced to Rs 14,000/- after qualifying in the comprehensive exam) and an annual contingency grant of Rs 15,000/-, in addition to a tuition grant covering the annual fees. The annual fees are Rs 4000/- per annum.

Integrated Ph.D.
Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 9,000/- (enhanced to Rs 14,000/- after passing the Comprehensive Exam). The annual fees for the first two years are Rs 2000/- per annum and Rs 4000/- per annum from third year onwards.

M.Sc. (Biology) at DBS
Students receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 7,500/- and the annual fee is Rs. 2000/- per annum.

Accommodation is provided to PhD and Integrated Ph.D. students only, at a nominal cost.
