TC/CAS Future Leader Scholarship 2009

As a new initiative for 2009, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) will offer an ETC/CAS Future
Leader Scholarship for a three-month training course in security policy to a candidate seeking to advance
his/her knowledge in international peace and security.
The programme is designed to prepare participants for leadership roles in international security and is
taught by highly-qualified academics, high-ranking diplomats, government officials and experts from
around the world. Participants who successfully complete the programme will be awarded the ETC
Certificate and the degree of Certificate of Advanced Studies in European Security (20 ECTS).

The ETC/CAS Future Leader Scholarship requires enrolment in two concurrent components:
• the 13th European Training Course in Security Policy (ETC 13), conducted by the GCSP
• the Certificate of Advanced Studies in European Security (CAS), conducted jointly by the GCSP
and the European Institute of the University of Geneva (IEUG).

Eligibility
The ETC/CAS Future Leader Scholarship is open to candidates who meet the following admission
requirements:
• Aged between 25 and 35 years
• Fluency in English (reading, writing and speaking)
• University degree in a security policy related field
• At least two years of professional experience
• Originating from one of the following regions: Central Asia, Caucasus, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, South-East Asia

The Selection Process
After an initial review of all applications, telephone interviews will be carried out with short-listed
candidates. The applicants will be informed of the selection within a few weeks.

The Award
The GCSP Future Leader Scholarship is sufficient to cover travel costs between the candidate’s country
of residence and Geneva, accommodation and living expenses in Geneva, and tuition fees.

Application Procedure & Deadline
Interested individuals are kindly asked to submit the following:
• A letter of motivation
• An updated curriculum vitae
• Copies of university degree
• A letter of recommendation
• A writing sample of 1000 words on “What is the meaning of security today?”
