The Guild Scholarships and Bursaries 2009: The Guild scholarships and bursaries provide a unique opportunity for people who would like to become pilots or to further their qualifications as pilots.

Outline criteria for all scholarships are listed on page one of each application form and should be read carefully. The criteria outlined on each form as a minimum selection consideration is not always a reflection of CAA/JAA policy, but it is the minimum standard required by the Guild.  The Guild will not enter into discussion with any candidate who falls outwith the selection criteria as outlined on the individual application form.  A candidate who does not meet minimum requirements as outlined fully on each application form will not be eligible for consideration.  It is advisable to read each application form with care to ensure you are able to comply with the standards and expectations required.

The closing date for receipt of all the applications listed below is 9 April 2009. Interviews (where applicable) will be in the third week of June , which is a change from previous years as we are very conscious that the majority of applicants are sitting public examinations in the early part of June.  Training in each instance MUST be completed by the first week of October 2009; candidates should be aware that this demands a very high level of commitment during the summer months and if offered a scholarship, the Guild will have very high expectations of the scholar.

Click on the title of the scholarship below to download the application form.  Alternatively, forms can be obtained from the Guild office by post – you should send a self-addressed, stamped envelope clearly marked as to which application form you require.  We regret – we are unable to send out application forms by post unless full postage has been received.

PPL Scholarships 2009

The Guild has at least six PPL scholarships to award in 2009 thanks to the generosity of several sponsors.  These scholarships cover all aspects of training up to licence issue for a candidate who is prepared to dedicate a considerable part of the summer to gaining their PPL.  Providing up to 45 hours of flying these scholarships can take a candidate with little or no experience to their flying licence during the course of the summer, alternatively they can “finish off” someone who is partially trained already.  The scholarships are awarded entirely on merit as evidenced on the completed application form as assessed by a selection committee appointed by the Guild.

Flight Instructor Rating (Fixed Wing) 2009

In 2009,  the Guild has at least 3 FI scholarships to award.  It is of paramount importance that the candidates meet the full terms and conditions of the pre-entry requirements as listed on the application form.  Considerable discussion is currently taking place in order to extend the amount of FI scholarships available as an investment into professionalism within aviation.

Flight Instructor Rating (Rotary) 2009

The Weetabix Scholarship is again on offer, a highly competitive,  much sought after award.  Covering all direct training  and examination costs for the successful candidate as they achieve their Helicopter Instructor Rating.

Flying Instructor Bursaries

These available to assist the successful instructor, who might otherwise not have the necessary resources, to achieve their Rating.  The Bursary covers only a contribution to direct training and examination costs. The costs of obtaining the required Medical Certificate, and any associated travel, subsistence, and accommodation expenses are the responsibility of the Bursary winner. The bursaries available (as long as there are enough individual applications) are:

Instrument Rating Instructor (up to £2,000)

Aerobatics Instructor (up to £1,250)

Multi-Engine Instructor (up to £3,000)
