Job Description: The Phi Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has established the Cassandra Taylor Scholarship in Memory of our beloved member Cassandra Taylor. Cassandra was a very dedicated member to Alpha Kappa Alpha and her local chapter. She was a hard working mother, wife, and student. We lost Cassandra in September of 2007 and it is with great admiration that we honor her by establishing this scholarship in her memory for the love and the service that she offered to our great sorority. Cassandra received a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and was pursuing her Doctoral Degree of Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The goal of the Cassandra Taylor Scholarship is to support the development of future leaders in pharmacy and to recognize pharmacy students who are pursuing a career in pharmacy.
Eligibility:
1. The student applicant must be enrolled as a full-time pharmacy student in an accredited U.S. college or school of pharmacy studying to obtain a doctor of pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.).
2. Student applicants must have completed at least one professional year of pharmacy school to apply. First year pharmacy students are not eligible to apply.
3. The student applicant must have a minimum of a 2.85 or “C” cumulative grade point average.
Application Process:
Complete application is attached. The application is open for all pharmacy students that have completed at least one year at an accredited College of Pharmacy. To apply, please submit the following:
1. Completed application form. 2. Current resume or curriculum vitae. (Submitted with the application)
3. A cover letter explaining your interest and career goals in community pharmacy practice (submitted with your application). Length should be no more than two typewritten pages. Please communicate and provide specific examples that demonstrate why you are deserving of this scholarship. Address cover letter to “Phi Alpha Omega Scholarship Committee.”
4. One letter of recommendation that explains why you are deserving of this scholarship. This letter may be from the staff pharmacist, pharmacy manager, district manager, regional manager, or corporate office. The letter may be addressed to: “Phi Alpha Omega Scholarship Committee.”
5. A signed letter from a pharmacy faculty member, pharmacy advisor, dean, or transcript office that states the applicant is in good academic standing with at least a “C” grade point average.
