Job Description: Waikato School Leaver Scholarships, worth $3,000 each, can be used for either tuition fees or Halls of Residence costs in 2011. These scholarships are available to all students enrolling for the first time at Waikato who have attended secondary school in 2010.

Students must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, achieve New Zealand University Entrance, and gain 70 credits at Level 3 National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) in four approved subjects; or achieve the equivalent of University Entrance (including the numeracy and literacy requirements) through the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and have achieved 170 points on the Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) tariff in four subjects equivalent to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)-approved subjects.

REGULATIONS
The Scholarships shall be known as the School Leaver Scholarships.
2. To be eligible for this Scholarship, students are to have attended secondary school in the year 2010, and must have applied to enrol in their chosen degree at the University of Waikato. The preferred application date is 1 December 2010.
3. The scholar will have attained one of the following:
a. Qualified for University Entrance and have achieved 70 credits at NCEA level 3 in four NZQA-approved subjects[2], with at least 14 credits in each of those subjects
b. Achieved the equivalent of University Entrance (including the numeracy and literacy requirements) through the CIE and have achieved 170 points on the Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) tariff, in four subjects equivalent to the NZQA-approved subjects, with at least 30 points in each subject.
The Scholar must have achieved the above criteria by 28 January 2011.
4. The scholar will be required to enrol as a full-time student in an undergraduate degree for the full academic year for which the Scholarship is awarded (a minimum of 120 points, usually eight papers). The scholar will be enrolled at the University for the first time in 2011, and must commence study in the first semester of 2011.
5. Scholars must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.
6. The Scholarship will have a value of $3,000 and is tenable for one year.
7. The Scholarship will be applied either to tuition fees for the academic programme in which the scholar is enrolled in 2011, or to accommodation charges in the University’s halls of residence.
8. The Scholarship is required to be repaid in full should the student withdraw from paper(s) and not add sufficient papers to maintain enrollment in 120 points for the 2011 academic year.
9. The Scholarship is not refundable under any circumstances, although students who withdraw from the University may apply for a refund of tuition fees paid that were not covered by the Scholarship, under the provisions of the Fees Regulations.
10. The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships awarded (except a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship, or a Plus One School Leaver Scholarship).
