Two industrial PhD positions in drug delivery

The Technical University of Denmark – Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology (DTU Nanotech, Roskilde), The Hevesy Laboratory – Department of radiation research – (Risø DTU) and LiPlasome Pharma (Lyngby), are initiating two new projects within liposomal drug delivery and are seeking candidates for Industrial PhD scholarship applications.

The positions are dependant on approval and support by

“Danish Agency for Science Technology and Innovation” and the candidates need a total grade average of at least 9 (13 scale) and at least 10 in their MSc thesis to receive a scholarship. The candidates should be able to start no later than 1. August 2008.

1st PhD position – Radioactive labeling of liposomes
We are looking for a candidate with a background in synthetic chemistry, alternatively a chemistry related field. Your work will be focused on radioactive labeling of water soluble compounds that can be entrapped in liposomes and labeling of lipids that can constitute liposome membranes. You will furthermore work on formulating liposomes with the synthesized radioactive compounds. A part of project will be the investigation of the biodistribution of liposomes in animal models. This part of the project is conducted in collaboration with The Cluster for Molecular Imaging at the Panum Institute, Copenhagen University.

2nd PhD position – Synthesis and formulation of lipid based prodrugs
The preferred candidate holds a MSc in organic chemistry. You have specialized in synthetic chemistry and preferably have a good understanding of biophysical chemistry and have a genuine interest in working with drug delivery technologies. You will be working on the design, development and characterization of novel liposomal drug delivery systems with particular focus on prodrugs that are susceptible to secretory phospholipase A2 hydrolysis.

For both positions
Both positions require strong interpersonal and team-based skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment. You are able to easily comprehend and apply new scientific concepts and have the ability to implement and develop state of the art technologies. You have a strong academic record and you are highly self-motivated and ambitious.

Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering.

The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students.
