Job Description :Applications are invited for two three-year research studentship to be undertaken in the School of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University. These studentships are offered to support work that builds on the strategic development of the Aston Brain Centre (ABC); a centre of excellence affording state of the art infrastructure for neuroimaging, cellular and clinical neurophysiology, and developmental cognitive neuroscience.
The exceptional quality of research in the School of Life and Health Sciences (LHS) has been confirmed in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) results – with research in Allied Healthcare and Professions and was ranked 3rd out of 61 UK higher education institutions based on the volume of research given a 3* or 4* rating. This reflects the amount of internationally excellent and world leading research produced within the School.
Projects
A number of projects are available within the priority areas of typical and atypical neurodevelopment and clinical models and interventions.

Project titles include:

  • Typical and atypical development of auditory processing. Principal Investigator: Dr Caroline Witton.
  • Induced Gamma and Beta Oscillations: a window onto Visual Development. Principal Investigators: Dr Ian Holliday and Prof. Gina Rippon.
  • Development of MEG based metrics to investigate language development in normally developing children and developmental disorders. Principle Investigators:  Dr Ngoc Jade Thai, Dr Cristina Romani, Prof. Stefano Seri.
  • Explorations of motor and balance skills in children with developmental disorders. Principal investigator: Kim Rochelle
  • Neural correlates of configural and part-based object processing in adolescence. Principal Investigators: Dr Luc Boutsen and Dr Martin Jüttner
  • Development of pharmaco-MEG: toward a characterisation of specific therapeutic action. Principle Investigator:  Dr Stephen D. Hall
  • Small World, Big Picture: can graph analysis help explain visual feature binding in Autism? Principal Investigators: Prof. Gina Rippon and Prof. Adrian Burgess

Application Requirements

  • Applicants should have or expect a first class or upper second class honours degree in a science subject or hold an MSc in a relevant discipline.
  • If you are an EU Applicant, the English Language requirements are a minimum score of 620 (260 minimum in computer test) in TOEFL OR IELTS with minimum marks of 6.5 in each section and an overall band of 7.0.
